PREP ROUNDUP: Greenwave scores 26 runs, gets two shutout wins

WEST BLOCTON | It was a banner day for the Gordo baseball team’s offense and defense Saturday. The Greenwave defeated West Blocton 15-0 and Holy Spirit 11-0.
Nick Pounders (3-0) took the West Blocton win on the mound, pitching five innings and allowing one hit while striking out four. At the plate, Hunter Falls hit 2-for-3, and Cade Vails hit 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs.
Hitters against Holy Spirit were Coy Chapman who was 2-for-3 with one run scored and an RBI and Falls going 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Thomas Langdon (3-0) was the winning pitcher. In five innings, he struck out 10 batters and gave up three hits.
Holy Spirit’s Zan Jones got two of those three hits, hitting 2-for-2 with a double and a single.
Gordo (20-5) plays at West Blocton again Monday.
Vestavia 9, Hillcrest 3
ALABASTER | Hillcrest got hits from Austin Williams, who was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Riley Nix, who was 1-for-1 with a run scored, Lee Clark who hit 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Matthew Davis who had one hit.
Chad Hunter Wyatt (5-1) took his first loss of the season on six trips to the mound. He pitched four innings, allowed six runs on five hits, one walk and two strikeouts.
Hillcrest 2, Thompson 1
ALABASTER | The Patriots’ winning run came in the fifth inning.
With two outs, Keith Holcombe singled, J.C. Fredrick was hit by a pitch, and Lee Clark singled to score Holcombe.
Thompson’s lone run came in the bottom of the seventh.
Clark was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Austin Williams was 2-for-3 and Brad Shaw had an RBI.
The winning pitcher was Braxton McFerrin (7-1). In 52⁄3 innings, he allowed no runs on four hits, four walks and two strikeouts. Williams got the save, his fifth.
Hillcrest (31-8) plays at Northridge on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Brookwood 1-10, Mortimer Jordan 8-7
KIMBERLY | Dustan Dille (1-1) got the win in the second game, pitching two innings in relief. He did not allow any runs, walked one and gave up one hit.
At the plate, Zach Lee went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and one stolen base. Christian Copen was 2-for-4 with four RBIs. KeWayne McCray was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base. Ryan Cross hit 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
In the first game, Zach Lee hit 4-for-4 with a run scored, and Brookwood got one hit each from Alex Antonio, Dustan Dille and Zach Winingham.
Brookwood (11-15) hosts Central on Tuesday.
Bibb County 9-13, Jemison 2-7
CENTREVILLE | Bibb County swept visiting Jemison.
First-game hitters included Brandon Fuller, who went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run, a double and three RBIs, and Brett Lightsey who was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Jacob Nichols (7-2) pitched a complete game for the win. He allowed two runs on six hits and walked three.
In the second game, Tanner Wallace (2-0) got the win. He pitched six innings, struck out five, walked two and gave up two runs on two hits.
Lightsey went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, and Kade McGee hit 1-for-1 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.
Bibb County (17-16, 4-0) will host Calera on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Gordo 9, Berry 0
VERNON | In its first game of double elimination Saturday morning at Lamar County’s Bulldog Classic, Gordo’s Cassidy Hardy took the win over Berry. She pitched five innings and allowed two hits while striking out three. Hardy was also the force at the plate, hitting 3-for-3 with four RBIs, a double and a run scored.
Berry’s Karlie Milligan got a hit, and Taylor Jones hit a double.
Berry 14, Pickens County 2
VERNON | Facing elimination, Berry topped Pickens County, led by Karlie Milligan.
Milligan went 4-for-5 at the plate with eight RBIs on a triple and a home run. She scored three runs.
Taylor Jones also had a solid game, hitting 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, as did Paige Cupit who was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Hannah Herren got the win on the mound. She allowed six hits, two earned runs and had seven strikeouts.
Pickens County’s Hanna Windle hit 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Addison 7, Berry 4
VERNON | Berry was eliminated in play at the Lamar County Bulldog Classic with the loss to Addison. Karlie Milligan hit 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Berry (12-10) will host Holy Spirit on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Marengo Academy 6, Autauga Academy 0
LINDEN | Winning pitcher was Andrea Edmonds (13-4), who threw seven innings and struck out eight. She gave up five hits and did not give up a walk.
Hitters for Marengo Academy included Anna Michael Crocker, who had two doubles with two RBIs. Chandler Stenz had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs.
Marengo Academy (15-5) hosts Wilcox Academy on Monday at 4 p.m.
Addison 2, Berry 0
SULLIGENT | Addison scored both its runs in the first inning to beat Berry in the second of two games Friday at Sulligent.
Berry’s Tabitha Sanford and Jacey Smith both hit 2-for-3 and Paige Cupid and Lexi Blanton got one hit each. Hannah Herren took the loss, throwing five innings and allowing seven hits. She struck out three.
Tuscaloosa County 4, Houston Academy 1
NORTHPORT | Jessica Clark scored three first-half goals to lead the Tuscaloosa County girls to a home win against Houston Academy.
Clark had assists from Keeley Madison and Emma Foley on two of her goals. The other was unassisted. Krystal Barger scored Tuscaloosa County’s final goal, unassisted, in the second half. Goalkeeper Andrea Quarles made three saves.
Tuscaloosa County (6-9) plays at Northridge on Tuesday.
TCHS wins match
Tuscaloosa County shot a team total of 156 to win a 9-hole tri-match at Ol’ Colony Golf Course. Hillcrest shot a 178 and Holy Spirit a 194.
TCHS’ Preston Jones had an even-par 36 to win medalist honors. TCHS’ Corbin Holt, Logan Wright and Robert Noergaard all shot a 40.
Nick Gann shot 41 to lead Hillcrest. Nick Sanders had a 45, Luke Shaw a 45 and Jackson Barton a 47.
Chace Lake came in at 39 to lead Holy Spirit. Ben Dever shot 40, Garrett Lake 53 and Max Bassett 62.
Competing as an individual was Gunner Hilliker of Northside. He shot a 43.
TCHS will play Tuesday in the Walker Invitational at Musgrove Country Club in Jasper.
