GIRLS ROUNDUP: Aliceville wins Pickens tournament


REFORM | Aliceville claimed the championship of the Pickens County tournament and produced tournament co-MVPs in Katelyn Shamery and Alexis Garner.

The Yellow Jackets won, 41-28.

Garner scored 18 points and Shamery 12 in the championship game. They were joined on the all-tournament team by Pickens County sisters, Tyneithia and Kailyndria Lanier. Tyneithia Lanier scored 13 points in the championship game.

Pickens County’s next top scorer in that game was Tyra Sommerville with nine points.

The win moves Aliceville to 8-1 this season. Pickens County (2-7) will host Fayette County on Jan. 3.

 

Berry 67, Phil Campbell 43

WINFIELD | Karlie Milligan scored 29 points for Berry at the Winfield Christmas Tournament.

Taylor Jones had 20 points and 21 rebounds. Hannah Herren had eight points and nine assists.

Berry (10-2) plays Monday against American Christian Academy in the tournament.

 

ACA 39, Dora 27

WINFIELD | ACA (6-6) will play for the consolation bracket championship on Monday against Berry.

Saturday’s second-round win against Dora was led by Cheyenne Hunt with 10 points and five steals, Ally English with nine points and nine rebounds and Haleigh Howell with 18 rebounds and eight points.

Dora was led in scoring by Madison Benko’s nine points.

 

Southern Academy 49, East Memorial Christian 17

SELMA | Southern Academy’s win came Saturday in the Morgan Academy Christmas Classic.

Makayla Swindal led all scorers and Southern Academy with 18 points, just one point more than her teammate and second-highest scorer Shelbie Clary, who had 17 points.

Southern Academy (7-4) is off until Jan. 3, when it hosts South Choctaw Academy.

 

Lamar County 64, South Lamar 50

MILLPORT | Savannah Suddeth scored 15 points and Kristen White 11 to lead Lamar County’s win on Saturday in the consolation final of the South Lamar tournament.

The host team, South Lamar, found scoring leaders in Jasmine Hood with 13 points and Hannah Cox with 10.

Hatley (Miss.) defeated Caledonia 53-39 to claim the tournament’s championship.

 

Marengo Academy 61, Patrician Academy 49

BUTLER | Undefeated Marengo Academy won its third tournament championship of the season, winning two games Saturday to win the Patrician Academy tournament.

The Longhorns beat host Patrician for the championship, led by 21 points from Brooke Smiley, 14 from Anna Michael Crocker and 10 each from Chandler Stenz and Andrea Edmonds.

Stenz was tournament MVP. Smiley and Edmonds were on the all-tournament team.

Marengo Academy beat Tuscaloosa Academy 29-16 in a second-round game Saturday morning. Edmonds scored 12 points and Stenz had eight.

High scorers for Tuscaloosa Academy were Carlie Cochran and McKenzie Smelley, each with five points.

Marengo Academy (12-0)will play at Central Park Christian on Friday.
