ROUNDUP: Greensboro girls win tournament


LINDEN | Shawnderyl Watford scored 16 points, grabbed seven rebounds and made seven steals to lead Greensboro to the championship of the Linden Christmas tournament with a 52-8 win against Sweet Water in Friday night’s championship game.

Elexis Evans had 11 points, eight rebounds and three blocks and Jashundra Hoskins seven points, four rebounds and four steals in the final.

Evans was the tournament MVP, and Watford joined her on the all-tournament team.

Greensboro (7-4) will host the Hale County tournament next week.

 

Amarillo (Texas) 61,

Central 55

DALLAS | Central was playing in the Sandra Meadows Classic.

Jerlissa Matthews led Central with 14 points. Shawntayla Harris had 10 points and 11 rebounds, and Traniya Pitts had 12 points and five rebounds.

 

Mesquite (Texas) 43,

Central 40

DALLAS | In play at the Sanrea Meadows Classic, Central (9-5) was led in the loss by Shawntayla Harris with 15 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks. Traniya Pitts had 12 points and six assists.

 

Sipsey Valley 42,

MONTGOMERY | In the Carver-Montgomery Christmas tournament, Sipsey Valley’s win was led by Charity Brown. She scored 19 points.

Sipsey Valley (10-3) is off until Jan. 4, when it plays at Northridge.

 

Bibb County 59,

CALERA | Bibb County (7-3) is playing in the winner’s bracket of the Calera Lemak Shootout. It will play Calera today at 11:30 a.m.

Bibb County was led by 18 points from Jon’Nita Henry, 15 from Jaunequa Steele and 12 from Savannah Anderson.

 

Carbon Hill 62, Berry 39

WINFIELD | In first-round play at the Winfield Christmas tournament, Berry (9-2) lost and will play Phil Campbell today at 11 a.m. in the consolation game.

Carbon Hill’s Caroline Dodd scored 40 points.

Berry’s Taylor Jones had 21 rebounds to go with 16 points. Berry’s Karlie Milligan also scored in double figures with 11 points.

 

Northridge 50, Brooks 46

HANCEVILLE | Northridge (8-11) will play Tanner today at 12:30 p.m. in the consolation bracket final of the Yule Tide Classic at Wallace State.

Northridge was led by 14 points from Antiyocka Howard, 13 from Brianna Henderson and 11 points and 11 rebounds from Shameka Tubbs.

 

Aliceville 52, Gordo 11

REFORM | In the tournament hosted by Pickens County, Aliceville (6-1) advanced to play the host team for the championship today at 5 p.m.

Katelyn Shamery led the win against Gordo with 14 points while Cyeka Plott scored nine.

Gordo’s high scorer was Shamya Hardy with four points.

 

Marengo Academy 36,

Lamar (Miss.) Academy 21

BUTLER | Marengo Academy (10-0) faces Tuscaloosa Academy at 11:30 a.m. today in the second round of the Patrician Academy tournament. The winner of this morning’s game advances to play for the championship tonight at 7.

Chandler Stenz scored 13 points, Andrea Edmonds nine and Anna Michael Crocker seven points in Marengo Academy’s opening-round win.

Lamar County 38

MILLPORT | Hatley won the first-round game of the South Lamar tournament.

Lamar County’s high scorer was Reagan Trowell with 16 points.

 

Caledonia 56,

South Lamar 54

MILLPORT | Foul trouble doomed tournament host South Lamar in the first round. It ended the game with just three players on the floor for the final two minutes because its other players had all fouled out.

Jasmine Hood scored 15 points. Lyric Davis and Tiffany Hayden both scored nine.

South Lamar (2-7) plays Lamar County today at 3 p.m. in the consolation final, while Hatley and Caledonia face off for the championship at 6 p.m.

ALBERTVILLE | In play Friday at Albertville High School’s tournament, American Christian Academy’s Britt Sparks had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Tyler House led ACA with 14 points.

ACA (7-6) plays Ashville at 5:30 p.m. today in the tournament.

Marbury 37

CALERA | Bibb County (14-2) is playing in the Calera Lemak Shootout this weekend. Today it plays at 10 a.m. against Calera or Shades Valley.

Danjel Purifoy was the Choctaws’ scoring leader Friday with 19 points.

 

Meek 59, Berry 48

ARLY | Seth Hayes led host Meek (5-7) with 23 points in first-round play Friday at the Smith Lake Invitational.

Berry’s Weston Bonner had 18 points and 12 rebounds. A.J. Johnson was its next highest scorer with nine points.

Berry (3-6) will play Addison today at 4 p.m. in the consolation game.

 

Sipsey Valley 74,

Walker 65

HOOVER | At Hoover High’s Big Orange Classic, four players scored in double figures to lead Sipsey Valley.

Jamarius Leatherwood scored 18 points and made seven assists. Garret Lewis scored 17. Rasheed Worrell scored 16, and Isaiah Blackmon scored 13.

Sipsey Valley (11-5) plays Northridge today at 1:30 p.m. in the tournament’s consolation bracket.

 

Aliceville 60, Gordo 34

REFORM | Pickens County and undefeated Aliceville will square off tonight around 7 for the championship of the Pickens County tournament.

Aliceville (7-0) defeated Gordo in Friday’s first round, led by 12 points from Anfernee Mullins and nine from Derrick Jones.

Ben Davis led Gordo with 15.

MILLPORT | In first-round play at the South Lamar tournament, Austin Spann led Lamar County with 19 points. Bryce Myles added 17.

 

South Lamar 68,

Caledonia 58

MILLPORT | South Lamar (11-0) will play tonight at 7:30 against Lamar County for the championship of the South Lamar tournament.

Jydarren Cox scored 30 points and Holden Fields scored 21 points to go with a team-leading nine rebounds in the first-round win against Caledonia on Friday.

OAK MOUNTAIN | Tuscaloosa County (15-2) advanced to play for the championship against Oak Mountain tonight at 7 in the Oak Mountain Christmas tournament.

Leading the Wildcats were Jaeison Jefferson with 14 points, Kevon Brown with 11 and Chris Gilliam with eight points.
