Kevin Holland’s 31-point explosion pushed Paul W. Bryant to its fifth win in as many games Friday night. Holland was followed by Sterling Hinton with 14 points. Justin Bryant had 14 rebounds.
Hillcrest was led by Jarad Pruitt’s 14 points, followed by 12 points from James Thomas and 10 points from Rayshawn Tubbs.
Paul W. Bryant (5-0) will host Sumter Central on Tuesday.
Northside 78, Oak Grove 56
OAK GROVE | Austin Hamner scored 21 points and Andrew Robertson 20 as Northside won its season opener on Friday.
Hayden Long had 14 points and Ty Cooper and Gunnar Hilliker both had nine points.
Oak Grove’s Jonah Todd led all scorers with 25 points.
Northside (1-0) plays at Sipsey Valley on Friday.
Central 60, Columbus, Miss. 54
Jevaris Richey scored 26 points for Central in the Falcons win on Friday. Eddie Harris added 12 points for Central.
Jay Swanigan was the only player who scored in double figures for Columbus, contributing 18 points.
Sumter Central 78, Greensboro 64
YORK | Sumter Central’s two 20-point scorers were enough to get the Jaguars their first win of the season, against the Greensboro Raiders on Friday. Donnell Childers scored 21 points and Anthony Hudson scored 20 while adding 13 rebounds.
Kendarius Cunningham also scored in double digits for Sumter Central with 11.
Greensboro was led by Derondrick Warren’s 15 points and Deuntay Davis’ 12 points.
Sumter Central (1-2) will play again on Tuesday, on the road against Paul W. Bryant.
Central 42, Columbus, Miss. 32
On Saturday, Jerlissa Matthews and Shawtayla Harris both scored 10 points to lead Central in a win against visiting Columbus, Miss., High School.
Harris had a double-double with 11 rebounds to go with her 10 points.
Kayla Rogers of Columbus led all scorers with 14 points.
Central (4-1) plays at Tuscaloosa County on Tuesday.
Paul W. Bryant 55, Hillcrest 48, 2 OT
Paul W. Bryant won in double overtime on Friday, led by Shannel Washington with 12 points and Bria Smith with 12 points and 11 rebounds, her first career double-double.
Hillcrest’s and the game’s high scorer was Kyi Mills with 21 points.
On Tuesday, Hillcrest (1-1) will play at Ramsey and Bryant (4-0) hosts Sumter Central.
Greene County 35, Holt 23
EUTAW | The Greene County Lady Tigers were led in scoring on Friday by Chineisha Spencer with nine points and Andaysziah Craig with eight points in the team’s season debut. Craig also added six rebounds.
Greene County’s Amber Wards had nine rebounds while scoring four points. Nicole Vester added five points and five steals to her seven rebounds.
Holt saw Haleigh Shaw, Delenes Jackson and Jaquetta Street score six points for the Lady Ironmen.
Oak Mountain 42, Northridge 37
On Friday, Christian McGowen’s 25 points led Oak Mountain to the win that marked Northridge’s third loss in as many games.
The Lady Jaguars got 14 points from Antiyocka Howard and another 10 points from Shameka Tubbs.
Northridge (0-3) will travel to Mountain Brook on Tuesday.
Greensboro 70, Sumter Central 35
GREENSBORO | Elexis Evans’ 34 points and Malesha Williams’ 23 points lifted Greensboro over Sumter Central on Friday night.
Shawnderyl Walker and Jashundra Haskins contributed 10 rebounds and six points, while Walker led the Raiders with nine assists. Evans blocked five Jaguars shots, and Williams had five steals for Greensboro.
Sarabi Jemison scored 18 of Sumter Central’s 35 points.
Greensboro plays at Akron on Tuesday.
