ROUNDUP: Pickens Academy beats Sumter Academy

CARROLLTON | Josh Lewis ran for three touchdowns and passed for another to lead Pickens Academy to a 35-13 victory over Sumter Academy on Friday night in high school football action.
Sumter Academy took an early 6-0 lead on Madison Hendry’s 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, but the Pirates stormed back with five unanswered scores to run away with the contest. Lewis scored on runs of 43, 1 and 26 yards and hit Grayson Noland for a 24-yard touchdown pass. He rushed for 116 yards on 10 carries and completed 7 of 12 attempts for 140 yards. London Hattaway, who ran for 55 yards on 11 carries, scored on a 6-yard run for Pickens Academy, and Dalton Perkins was perfect on five extra-point attempts.
Sumter Academy closed on the scoring on Nathan Williamson’s 30-yard scoring run in the final period.
Lewis also had a team-high 10 tackles and recovered a fumble. Grant McCrary recovered two fumbles and made seven stops.
Pickens Academy (2-0) will host Southern Academy next Friday. Sumter Academy (1-1) will host Sparta Academy.
Tuscaloosa Academy 52,
Lyman Ward Military Academy 6
CAMP HILL | The Tuscaloosa Academy Knights, ranked No. 3 in the AISA poll, ran their winning streak to 15 games by routing Lyman Ward Military Academy.
Matt Teesdale had two rushing touchdowns.
Keonte Chambers and Dustin Jenkins each ran for a score. Austin Menard threw a touchdown pass to Harrison Standeffer, and Brendan Mitchell threw a scoring pass to Pierce Goodbread.
Tuscaloosa Academy, 2-0 overall and 2-0 in region play, will be at home next Friday, facing Macon East Academy in a Class AAA, Region 1 game.
McAdory 14, Paul W. Bryant 3
MCCALLA | McAdory, the No. 1-ranked team in Class 5A, got one touchdown with its opening drive and added another in the fourth quarter to hold off Paul W. Bryant.
Paul W. Bryant coach Errol Jones said Adam Shepherd kicked a 40-yard field goal in the second quarter to cut McAdory’s halftime lead to 7-3.
“We got the second-half kickoff and returned it for a touchdown, but it was called back due to clipping,” Jones said. “I’m very proud of my guys. They never quit. We played four quarters of football tonight.”
McAdory improved to 2-0 overall, 1-0 in Class 5A, Region 5.
Paul W. Bryant (0-2, 0-1) plays at home against Brookwood Friday.
Winfield 50, Winston County 19
DOUBLE SPRINGS | The Pirates rolled up 362 rushing yards and Xavier McCollum rushed for four touchdowns.
McCollum scored on runs of 45, 6, 5 and 12 yards for Winfield, going for 218 yards on 16 carries. Dylan Chambers added a 3-yard touchdown run and Kyle Nixon scored on a 51-yard interception return. Mason Osborn threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Nathan Dean and Jake Elkins booted a 25-yard field goal.
Winfield (2-0) will host Danville next Friday.
Autaugaville 22, Akron 6
AKRON | Akron took the early lead on Deontay White’s 11-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, but the game got away from the Rams as London Maynard took over. Maynard scored on a 1-yard run for Autaugaville, threw a 36-yard pass to Stephan Palmer and capped his night with a 55-yard touchdown pass to Devontay Wells.
Akron (1-1) will host Holy Spirit next Friday.
Berry 48, Marion County 34
BERRY | Terrance “Tank” Hollingsworth rushed for 345 yards on 27 carries, scored three touchdowns and made nine tackles and an interception to lead Berry (2-0) against Marion County (1-1).
Hollingsworth scored on runs of 9, 85 and 58 yards. Berry quarterback Weston Bonner rushed 18 times for 121 yards and three touchdowns and was 6 of 9 for 94 yards passing. He scored on runs of 26, 4 and 2 yards. Charleston Hudson had three interceptions for 83 yards, including a 15-yard TD catch.
Berry plays at Hubbertville next week, while Marion County hosts Parrish.
Hubbertville 21, Parrish 16
PARRISH | Hubbertville scored on a safety, a Dax Benton 27-yard field goal, a T.J. Pratt 3-yard run and a Vess Benton-to-Gabe Stidham two-point conversion for a 13-point second quarter that spelled the difference in its victory over Parrish.
Landon Miller’s 2-yard run in the fourth quarter, followed by Jack Norris’ two-point run, accounted for the rest of Hubbertville’s scoring.
Hubbertville will host Berry next Friday.
Corner 42, West Blocton 6
CORNER | West Blocton threw three interceptions and lost three fumbles while gaining just 229 yards. Taylor Crawford ran nine times for 100 yards and two touchdowns to lead Corner.
Sumter Central 12
LIVINGSTON | For Sumter Central (0-2) Dominique Robertson had eight carries for 110 yards and one touchdown, scoring on a 81-yard touchdown run.
The Jaguars’ other touchdown came on a 33-yard pass play to Dionte Willingham from Jadarius Wilson.
Bibb County 47,
Carbon Hill 6
CENTREVILLE | Quarterback T.J. Lockett rushed for two touchdowns and passed for two more as the Bibb County Choctaws remained unbeaten with an easy win over Carbon Hill.
Lockett had 10 carries for 109 yards and scored on runs of 5 and 7 yards. He also completed 8 of 11 passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns to Artez Stacy.
Also scoring touchdowns for the Choctaws were Justin Dedrick, T.J. Bell and Trey Fondren. Dedrick led all rushers with 132 yards on 13 carries, while Bell added 81 yards on nine carries.
Bibb County (2-0) travels to Oak Grove next Friday night.
Pickens County 51,
South Lamar 7
MILLPORT | Jermarcus Brown rushed for 158 yards and one touchdown and returned a fumble 55 yards for another score as the second-ranked Pickens County Tornadoes pounded South Lamar in Class 1A action.
Devonte Simon threw touchdown passes to Deonte’ Simon and Javoris Jefferson. Devonte Simon also added a 45-yard touchdown run.
JaMarcus Smith recovered a fumble in the end zone for another Tornado touchdown, while Darrien Latham scored on a 55-yard run.
Tyderious Easterwood led Pickens County on defense with 10 tackles and two sacks. Justin Barton had eight tackles.
Herschel Smith scored South Lamar’s lone touchdown on a 1-yard run.
Pickens County (2-0) hosts Lynn next Friday night, while South Lamar (0-2) travels to Brilliant.
Lamar County 28,
VERNON | Dallas Cockerham rushed for 181 yards and three touchdowns on 31 carries as the Lamar County Bulldogs rallied in the second half against Oakman.
Oakman led 19-14 at halftime before Cockerham scored on a 19-yard run in the third quarter to give the Bulldogs a 21-19 lead. He added a 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
In the first half, Lamar County scored on a 72-yard kickoff return by Tim Harton and a 39-yard run by Cockerham.
Joshua Smith had six tackles and one sack for the Bulldogs.
Lamar County (2-0) travels to R.C. Hatch next Friday.
J.U. Blacksher 8
LINDEN | Prentiss McCuiston scored three touchdowns and Demarcus Gilmore added two touchdowns as the Linden Patriots crushed J.U. Blacksher.
McCuiston rushed for 57 yards on just six carries and scored on runs of 19, 1 and 25 yards. Gilmore led the Patriots in rushing with 69 yards on five carries and scored on runs of 16 and 28 yards.
Devontae Knox scored on a 34-yard run for the Patriots and also returned an interception 22 yards for another touchdown. Eric Monroe returned a fumble 18 yards for a score.
Linden (1-1) travels to Saint Luke’s next Friday.
Southern Academy 30,
Cornerstone Christian 6
COLUMBIANA | Clayton Hall passed for two touchdowns as the Southern Academy Cougars defeated Cornerstone Christian.
Hall threw an 81-yard scoring pass to Dylan Henry in the second quarter and followed with a 49-yard touchdown pass to Justin Cole in the third quarter.
Henry also scored on a 9-yard run in the first quarter.
Jacob Jones added an 11-yard touchdown run and 34-yard field goal for the Cougars.
Southern Academy (1-1) travels to Pickens Academy next Friday night.
