WEST ALABAMA HEROES: Anderson cleans up in doubleheader


East Central Community College sophomore shortstop Tim Anderson, a Hillcrest High School graduate, went 6-for-8 with one double, one home run, two stolen bases, four runs scored and five RBIs in a doubleheader sweep of Southwest Mississippi Community College.


 

TUSCALOOSA | Here is how some former Tuscaloosa-area high school athletes now competing at the collegiate level fared last week:

 

Baseball

 

Alabama senior catcher Brett Booth (Tuscaloosa County High School) has started all 38 games this season and is hitting .272 with five doubles, three home runs and 24 RBIs.

 

Alabama senior outfielder/designated hitter Cameron Carlisle (Hillcrest High School) was 1-for-4 with one run scored, one double and one RBI in a win over Alcorn State.

 

Alabama-Huntsville junior right-hander Alex Aultman (Winfield High School) has posted a 5-1 record and 3.58 ERA in eight starts. He has worked 50 innings and allowed 20 earned runs and 47 hits with 33 strikeouts and 14 walks.

 

Alabama-Huntsville senior infielder Vincent Kortbawi (Hale County High School) has played in all 38 games for the Chargers and is hitting .373 with 11 doubles, two triples, four home runs and 37 RBIs.

 

Auburn junior left-hander Terrance Dedrick (Hillcrest High School) recorded one win and one save in three scoreless relief appearances last week. He struck out both hitters he faced to earn his third win in the Tigers’ 2-1 walk-off win over Alabama State. He threw two scoreless innings and struck out two to earn his third save in the series opener against Georgia.

 

Arkansas-Monticello junior right-hander Eddie Smith (Brookwood High School) logged two scoreless relief appearances in the series win over Southern Nazarene. He retired two of the three batters he faced in the series opener to notch his third save of the year. He added one scoreless inning with two strikeouts in the middle game of the set.

 

East Central Community College sophomore shortstop Tim Anderson (Hillcrest High School) went 6-for-8 with one double, one home run, two stolen bases, four runs scored and five RBIs in a doubleheader sweep of Southwest Mississippi Community College. 

 

East Central Community College sophomore infielder Kalik May (Tuscaloosa County High School) went 2-for-6 with two runs scored and two stolen bases in the doubleheader sweep of Southwest Mississippi Community College.

 

East Mississippi College freshman infielder Trent Waddell (Northridge High School) went 3-for-4 (.750) with two doubles, two RBIs and three walks in a doubleheader against Mississippi Delta Community College.

 

Faulkner University senior right-hander Johnny Shuttlesworth (American Christian Academy) notched his ninth win of the season in a 12-6 victory over Southern Poly. He allowed four earned runs and five hits in eight innings with six strikeouts and four walks.

 

Louisiana-Monroe senior first baseman Corben Green (Hillcrest High School) was 5-for-17 (.294) in four games last week against McNeese State and Florida International. He was 3-for-5 with two runs scored, one double, one home run and one RBI in the series finale with Florida International.

 

Ole Miss junior infielder Lance Wilson (Hillcrest High School) scored the winning run in the Rebels’ 4-3 11-ining win over Alabama to complete a three-game sweep.

 

Shelton State freshman outfielder Austin Alexander (Brookwood High School) hit 6-for-12 with four runs scored, two doubles and two RBIs in the series win over Wallace-Hanceville. He hit safely in all four games.

 

Shelton State sophomore catcher Tanner Ashcraft (Hillcrest High School) went 2-for-8 and knocked in five runs in the Buccaneers’ series win over Wallace State-Hanceville. He also scored four runs.

 

Shelton State freshman pitcher O.K. Bryant (Hillcrest High School) retired all three batters he faced in game two of the Wallace-Hanceville series.

 

Shelton State sophomore outfielder Burke Haffner (Tuscaloosa County High School) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the Bucs’ 11-1 series opening win over Wallace-Hanceville.

 

Shelton State sophomore shortstop Trevor Sprowl (Tuscaloosa County High School) had a hand in two of the Bucs’ three wins over Wallace-Hanceville. He was 2-for-3 with one run scored, one triple and five RBIs in the Bucs’ 11-3 win in game two. He retired all three batters he faced to earn the save in the Bucs’ 4-2 win in game three.

 

Shelton State freshman outfielder Slayton Thompson (Tuscaloosa County High School) was 6-for-10 with two runs scored and two RBIs in the series win over Wallace-Hanceville. He hit safely in all four games.

 

Shelton State sophomore second baseman Jake Vickerson (Hillcrest High School) hit 4-for-12 with four runs scored and two RBIs in the series win over Wallace-Hanceville.

 

Shelton State sophomore third baseman J.C. Wilhite (Northridge High School) hit 4-for-10 with three runs scored, two doubles and one RBI in the series win over Wallace-Hanceville.

 

Shelton State freshman left-hander Josh Winingham (Brookwood High School) did not allow a run in six innings in the Bucs’ 11-1 win over Wallace-Hanceville in the series opener. He limited Hanceville to one unearned run on two hits and struck out three.

 

Stillman sophomore outfielder Seth Booth (Tuscaloosa County High School) went 3-for-6 with three runs scored, one double and one RBI in the two-game series with LeMoyne-Owen.

 

Stillman junior right-hander Tyler Vails (Pickens Academy) notched his fifth win of the season as he worked five innings in a win over LeMoyne-Owen. He allowed one unearned run and one hit with four strikeouts.

 

UAB sophomore left-hander Sam Kelley (Southern Academy) suffered his third loss of the season as he allowed four runs and six hits in 52⁄3 innings in the Blazers’ 7-1 loss to Memphis.

 

Softball

 

Shelton State sophomore catcher Casey Wyatt (Hillcrest High School) is hitting .348 (31-for-89) with four doubles, five home runs and 21 RBIs in 32 games. She has scored 23 runs.

 

Stillman senior shortstop Bailey Braughton (Tuscaloosa County High School) was 7-for-17 (.412) with seven runs, one home run and four RBIs. She was 5-for-5 with a two-run home run in the series opener.

 

Stillman freshman infielder Hannah Burr (American Christian Academy) went 8-for-15 (.533) with three runs scored and four RBIs in the four-game series at Kentucky State. She was 4-for- 5 in the series opener and swatted a three-run home run in game three.

 

Stillman senior outfielder Michelle Gray (Tuscaloosa County High School) was 10-for-17 with two doubles, one home run, six runs scored and six RBIs in the series with Kentucky State.

 

Stillman senior catcher Danielle Hewett (Holt High School) went 7-for-15 (.467) with three doubles, two home runs, five runs scored and nine RBIs in four games at Kentucky State. She was 3-for-5 with three RBIs in the series opener.
