ROUNDUP: Hillcrest softball wins two


TUSCALOOSA | The Hillcrest High School softball team won a pair of games Saturday.

In a 5-2 win against Grissom, Bree Fornis hit 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Anna Blake Barnette batted 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Allison Freeman went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.

Hannah Payne (11-0) pitched five innings and walked three, allowed one earned run and struck out seven.

Hillcrest (26-9) beat Athens 8-4 with Freeman (9-4) on the mound, going five innings and striking out six and allowing four earned runs.

Desiree Morrow batted 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Lyndsey Vaughn was 3-for-4 with a home run among her two runs scored in her four RBI performance. Sam Cummings went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Kailyn Dunn was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Patrician Academy 2

TUSCALOOSA | In the first game of the doubleheader, Brittany Ledbetter earned the win, pitching four innings in relief. She allowed no runs, no hits and struck out five.

Chassiti Kimbrell was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Ledbetter hit 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

TUSCALOOSA | TA (17-5) took the second game in five innings to sweep the doubleheader. Brittany Ledbetter (12-3) won in relief, giving up no runs and allowing one hit while striking out four. Kaci Cochran hit 2-for-3 with the go-ahead RBI.

VERNON | Berry lost its first of four games Saturday at the Bulldog Classic. Lexi Blanton hit 2-for-3 and scored a run. Hannah Herren went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Emma Herren, Terra Gwin and Taylor Jones each had a hit.

Gordo’s Cassidy Hardy pitched seven innings for the win, striking out five and allowing one earned run on four hits with a walk.

Hardy hit 2-for-3. Anna Gayle Norris hit 1-for-3 with a two-run home run. Meaghan Jackson and Sarah McDaniel both hit 2-for-4.

VERNON | In play at the Bulldog Classic, Hannah Herren earned the win, pitching three innings and allowing two hits while striking out one.

Taylor Jones batted 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Karlie Milligan, Emma Herren, Lexi Blanton and Leah Sanford all had two hits. Sanford and Blanton had three RBIs.

For Pickens County, Mallory Shaw had a hit and Melinda Brown was 1-for-2 with a double.

Lamar County 3

VERNON | For Berry, Taylor Jones batted 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Tabitha Sanford was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Karlie Milligan was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Terra Gwin was 2-for-4 with two runs, and Hannah Herren (14-8) pitched seven innings for the win, allowing 10 hits and one strikeout and three earned runs.

Lamar County’s Keeli Bobbitt hit 2-for-4 with a double, and Savannah Sudduth was 2-for-3 with a double.

 

South Lamar 10,

Berry 9, 8 innings

VERNON | In its fourth of four games played Saturday in the Bulldog Classic, Berry (14-8) fell to South Lamar to finish third in the tournament. With the game stretched to eight innings, South Lamar’s Blake Hardin produced the winning hit when she singled to left field with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth. She ended the game going 3-for-4 with two runs and a triple.

Berry’s offense found Emma Herren going 2-for-4, Karlie Milligan hitting 2-for-4 with two runs, a double and an RBI, Lexi Blanton hitting 1-for-3 with a double, and Leah Sanford going 1-for-3 with a two-run double.

VERNON | In its first of four games Saturday at the Bulldog Classic, Gordo’s win was led by pitcher Haleigh Junkin (6-3). She struck out six, walked one and allowed three hits and went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Shayla Brown hit 2-for-2 and Megan Quimby 1-for-2.

VERNON | Cassidy Hardy was Gordo’s winning pitcher, striking out six, walking one and giving up two hits.

Hardy batted 1-for-2 with an RBI. Meaghan Jackson hit 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Hannah Dyer was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Anna Gayle Norris was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

VERNON | Gordo (16-6) claimed the championship of the Bulldog Classic with the win.

Cassidy Hardy (10-3) was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits while striking out five and walking one.

Hardy hit 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a solo home run. Meaghan Jackson was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Mollie Hall was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Holy Spirit 4

TUSCALOOSA | Devonte Simon struck out 11 as Pickens County defeated Holy Spirit in a Class 1A, Area 9 matchup on Friday.

Simon (4-1) was the winning pitcher, throwing all seven innings and giving up four runs on eight with no walks. He was also 2-for-4 with a single, a double and two RBIs.

Also for Pickens County (8-5, 1-3 in the area), Ryan Harcrow was 3-for-4, Gunner Lemons was 2-for-3 and Cliff Morton was 2-for-3.

For Holy Spirit, Danner Young was 2-for-4 with two doubles, Garrett Anderson was 2-for-4 with a double and Zan Jones was 2-for-3 with a double.

Tuscaloosa County 0

NORTHPORT | Amanda Baker scored three goals as Northridge shut out Tuscaloosa County on Friday.

Joana Zambrano, Michelle Peters, A.C. Scogin and Lee Almond also had one goal each for Northridge (13-2-1), and Manon Kilgore earned the shutout in goal.
