ROUNDUP: Knights win 18th straight


TUSCALOOSA | The Tuscaloosa Academy Knights (25-3) ran their winning streak to 18 games by defeating Coosa Valley Academy, which committed six errors, 11-1 in baseball Monday.

Tuscaloosa Academy, which had nine hits, scored four runs in the first inning, six in the fourth and one in the sixth to end it on the 10-run run rule.

Kyle Andrews went 2-for-3 with a double. Robey Smalley had a double and drove in three runs. Greg Taylor and Parker Farley scored two runs each.

Coosa Valley Academy scored its run in the third inning.

Austin Menard (5-0) pitched a complete game to get the win. He allowed an earned run and four walks and struck out five.

Tuscaloosa Academy will play Kingwood Christian in Alabaster on April 2.

Holy Spirit 0

LOXLEY | Class 6A James Clemens defeated Class 1A Holy Spirit in the opening round of the Gulf Coast Classic.

Tucker Clark homered for James Clemens. Heath Burchfield, Curtis Towers and Clark combined to pitch a two-hitter in five innings.

Chace Lake and Garrett Anderson singled for the Titans. Pierce Goodbread took the loss, allowing five runs in two innings.

Holy Spirit (4-12) faces Brooks and West End today.

 

Hillcrest 10, Brentwood 1

HOOVER | Robert Humphrey (3-1) was the winning pitcher as the Patriots posted a victory over Brentwood from Tennessee.

Hillcrest’s Keith Holcombe, Parker Barton and Austin Williams each had two hits.

 

Spanish Fort 7, Hillcrest 5

HOOVER | Spanish Fort slipped past Hillcrest in a game that went 11 innings.

John Eric Turner (0-3) took the loss.

Riley Nix, Lee Clark and Keith Holcombe had two hits each for Hillcrest.
