Greensboro players finalists for prep honors

Greensboro High School’s Jimmie Taylor and Malesha Williams are finalists for Class 3A Player of the Year honors and candidates for state Mr. Basketball and Miss Basketball honors.
Taylor is a 6-foot-9 center who has signed with the University of Alabama. He was a first-team All-State selection and the Central Regional most valuable player. He helped the Raiders win state championships in 2011 and 2012. Greensboro qualified for Birmingham for a third straight year but lost to Madison Academy in the semifinal round.
Taylor averaged 13 points, 11.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists as the Raiders went 28-3. He blocked 109 shots and made 28 steals.
The other 3A Mr. Basketball finalists are guards Josh Langford of Madison Academy and Xavier Moon of Central-Coosa.
Williams, a 5-7 junior forward, was also an All-State selection. She scored more than 50 points in two games and averaged 26.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists.
The other 3A Miss Basketball finalists are forward Chatara Cox of Lauderdale County and center DaNeshia Malone of Clements.
The state players of the year and Mr. and Miss Basketball winners will be announced at the Alabama Sports Writers Association banquet April 4.
