SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Northridge goes 1-2 in tournament play

PLEASANT GROVE | In its first game Saturday at the Pleasant Grove Invitational, Northridge lost 4-3 to Briarwood Christian on the international tie-breaker ruling.
Sami Story was 2-for-3 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI. Madison Frazer and Kerri Irwin both hit 2-for-3.
Mickenzie Sparks pitched six innings in the loss, striking out seven and allowing four runs and two walks.
Northridge 5, Gardendale 3
PLEASANT GROVE | In its second of three games Saturday at the Pleasant Grove Invitational, Allie Webb took the win, throwing three innings and allowing five hits, three runs and one walk while striking out four. Kerri Irvin was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Montana Taylor was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored.
Brookwood 4, Northridge 1
PLEASANT GROVE | In its third of three games played Saturday, Northridge (9-5) fell to Brookwood at the Pleasant Grove Invitational. Winning pitcher was Lindsye Jefferson who pitched five innings and allowed one run on six hits while striking out two. Kerri Irvin was losing pitcher, allowing four runs on five hits, walking two and striking out four. Brookwood’s bats were led by Brooke Hagood going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, and Codi Pierson hitting 2-for-3 with an RBI. For Northridge, Montana Taylor was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Sami Story was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Northside 16, Pickens Co. 3, 4 innings
MOUNDVILLE | In its first of four games Saturday at the Hale County tournament, Hallie Clark (1-0) was winning pitcher, striking out two, walking two and allowing two hits in two innings. Haley Barnette hit a triple, a double, and single and had four RBIs, and Alex Green hit a home run and an RBI. Pickens County had a total of three hits in the game.
Northside 13, Thorsby 4, 4 innings
MOUNDVILLE | In its second of four games Saturday at Hale County’s tournament, Haley Barnette had a three-run home run and four RBIs and Raegan Malone three singles and one RBI for Northside’s win. Winning pitcher was Rikki Bush (4-1) who pitched three innings, struck out two, walked two and gave up five hits.
Northside 12, Sipsey Valley 4, 5 innings
MOUNDVILLE | In its third of four games Saturday at Hale County’s tournament, Northside’s Haley Barnette hit a three-run home run, knocked in four runs and had a double, and Riley Grace Honeycutt had two singles to lead the bats. Winning pitcher was Savannah Stamps (2-1) who pitched three of the five innings and allowed three walks and two hits.
Losing pitcher for Sipsey Valley was Kalli Isbell who struck out two batters and gave up two hits in three innings. Elizabeth Straight had a solo home run and an RBI.
Hale County 11, Northside 6, 4 innings
MOUNDVILLE | In its fourth of four games at Hale County’s tournament, Hale County gave Northside its lone loss of the day. Hale County’s Savannah Holmes pitched all four innings for the win. She struck out four and walked four. Jayci Jones had a solo home run, a single and two RBIs and Taylor Tashe a double, a single and three RBIs for Hale County.
For Northside, the losing pitcher was Haley Barnette (1-2) who went 12⁄3 innings and struck out one but gave up six hits. Barnette led the offense with two singles and an RBI.
Northside (8-5-1) hosts Northridge on Monday at 4 p.m.
Pickens Academy 7, Patrician Academy 1
BUTLER | In play at the Patrician Academy tournament, Pickens Academy beat the host with Whitney Lowe hitting 1-for-1 with two RBIs and Marion Colvin going 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Kacy Noland was winning pitcher, throwing four innings and allowing one hit, one unearned run, a walk and two strikeouts.
Pickens Academy 1, Clarke Prep 0
BUTLER | Marion Colvin’s singled in the bottom of the fifth to score Meredith McCool and lift Pickens Academy to the championship of the Patrician Academy tournament. Colvin was also the winning pitcher. In seven innings she allowed three hits, three walks and struck out five. She was 2-for-3 at bat with a double and an RBI. McCool was 2-for-3 and scored the lone and winning run. Pickens Academy (7-3) went 4-0 in the tournament. It hosts Sumter Academy on Monday.
Brookwood 14, Chelsea 7
PLEASANT GROVE | In the semifinals of the Pleasant Grove Invitational, Brookwood’s Amanda Meddars (8-1) pitched for the win, allowing seven runs, nine hits, two walks and one strike out in four innings. Meddars hit 3-for-3 and scored two runs, knocked in three RBIs, had a double and a home run. Codi Pierson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Caitlin Headrick was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Brookwood fell to Hueytown 11-0 in the championship game.
West Blocton 6, Hale County 5, 9 innings
MOUNDVILLE | Winning pitcher for West Blocton (8-4) was Kelsey Ard who pitched all nine innings and struck out three and gave up six hits. Hitters were KayLee Alexander who was 1-for-3 with two runs scored, Crislyn Graham who was 1-for-4 with three runs scored and Katlyn Bedford who had an RBI single in the nine for the win.
Hale County’s offense was led by Abbey Fleenor who was 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Losing pitcher was Savanna Holmes who pitched all nine innings and struck out seven, walked four and gave up nine hits.
