ROUNDUP: Hale County beats Bryant in 8 innings

MOUNDVILLE | The Hale County baseball team ran its record to 5-0 by edging Paul W. Bryant 5-4 in eight innings Monday.
Tyler Gilliam had a two-run single to give the Wildcats their winning margin. Jay Payne singled, Grant Stevens walked and Brylan Gallegos beat out a bunt before Gilliam singled to end it.
Gilliam went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Deacon Medders went 2-for-3 with a walk and drove in two runs.
Paul W. Bryant’s Tyler Slaton went 3-for-4 with a double and scored three runs.
Winning pitcher Jackson Seale (2-0) allowed seven hits and three walks and struck out eight. Kyle Bradford took the loss.
Pickens Academy 17,
Immanuel Christian 0
CARROLLTON | Joel Pratt threw a one-hitter as the Pickens Academy Pirates opened their season by defeating Immanuel Christian from Mississippi in five innings.
Pratt finished with eight strikeouts and allowed one walk.
Pickens Academy scored six runs in the first inning, seven in the second and four in the third.
Reece McGlawn had a triple and two RBIs. Phil Fikes had a double and drove in a run. Hunter Booth had a double and drove in a run. Aaron Jones had a single and drove in three runs.
Pickens Academy is scheduled to play Central Academy in Macon, Miss., at 6 tonight.
