ROUNDUP: Paul W. Bryant rallies past West Blocton

COTTONDALE | The Paul W. Bryant softball team rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Monday and defeated West Blocton 3-2.
West Blocton scored a run to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh. Paul W. Bryant’s Morgan Smith and Candice Hopkins bunted for hits and advanced on a wild pitch. Smith scored on a sacrifice bunt by Danu Hernandez. Leslie Brogden singled to drive in Hopkins with the winning run.
Mary Elizabeth Brogden (1-1) pitched two innings to get the win. She allowed four hits, one run and a walk and struck out four. Kaylee Alexander pitched a complete game in taking the loss. She struck out 10, walked six and allowed four hits.
Paul W. Bryant (1-1) got a run in the third inning. Hernandez walked, stole second and third and scored on a single by Kim Koon.
Paul W. Bryant plays at home, facing Pickens County at 6:30 tonight.
Pleasant Grove 0
BROOKWOOD | Amanda Medders threw a two-hit shutout, and the Brookwood Lady Panthers beat Pleasant Grove in five innings to even their record at 3-3.
Medders (2-1) recorded two strikeouts and walked one. Allie Hyde took the loss. She allowed 10 hits and seven walks and struck out one.
Brookwood scored five runs in the first inning, two in the second, two in the third and two in the fourth.
Taylor Parker went 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Cassidy Hutchins went 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored. Medders had a double and a walk and scored two runs. Bre Franklin went 1-for-2 with a walk and scored two runs.
Brookwood plays at home, taking on Tuscaloosa County at 4:30 this afternoon.
