Gordo wins softball opener

VERNON |Gordo defeated Lamar County 4-2 Friday in its season-opening softball game.
Meaghan Jackson hit 2-for-3 for Gordo and Anna Gayle Norris was 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in the season opener. Cassidy Hardy was winning pitcher, going four innings and striking out four and allowing one hit and no walks.
Hillcrest wins three at Patriot Classic
TUSCALOOSA | Hillcrest won three games at the Patriot Classic. Hillcrest beat Curry 3-2, Spain Park 1-0 and Thompson 6-1. Hillcrest lost in the semifinals to Vestavia 2-0.
Karley Sanders got the win against Curry. Bree Fornis had a hit and an RBI.
Against Spain Park, Desiree Morrow’s home run gave Hillcrest the 1-0 win. Allison Freeman struck out seven to earn the win.
Against Thompson, Freeman was the winning pitcher, striking out seven in six innings. Fornis had two hits and Sanders had a double and an RBI.
Against Vestavia, Sanders took the loss, allowing eight hits.Anna Blake Barnette led the hitting, going 1-for-3.
Tuscaloosa Academy 12, Edgewood Academy 1
ELMORE | Tuscaloosa Academy scored 12 runs on 13 hits. Chassiti Kimbrell and Brittany Ledbetter both hit home runs, and Shelby Curry and MacKenzie Smelley both hit doubles.

ELMORE | Brittany Ledbetter went 4-for-4 with a two-run home run, Rachael Fincher had a two-run triple and Chassiti Kimbrell went 3-for-4 with a double. Ledbetter pitched the first two innings and struck three out and allowed one hit. Kimbrell pitched the final three innings and allowed one hit.
