ROUNDUP: North River, Tuscaloosa Christian to meet in ACEAA tourney


OXFORD | Five players scored in double figures, led by 33 points and 14 rebounds by Josh Harris, in North River Christian’s 80-69 win against Cahawba Christian Academy in the quarterfinal of the Alabama Christian Education Athletic Association’s Elite 8 tournament in Oxford. The Chargers (17-3) face crosstown rival Tuscaloosa Christian in the semifinals tonight at 6:30 p.m.

Michael Robertson scored 13 points and pulled down 12 rebounds and his brother, Matt Robertson, had 12 points and eight rebounds.

McKnight hat trick leads

Holy Spirit win

TUSCALOOSA | Sanders McKnight scored a hat trick in Holy Spirit’s 6-0 win against visiting Sipsey Valley. McKnight scored one first-half goal and two in the second, one of those on an assist from Andrew Whitfield. Whitfield scored a goal in each half, and Alex Enns scored a first-half goal. The Titans (2-0, 2-0) goalkeeper, Rohit Fonseca had six saves in the game.

Sparks and Blake combine for Northridge no-hitter

TUSCALOOSA | Mickenzie Sparks and Savannah Buck combined for a five-inning, no-hitter in Northridge’s 10-0 home win against Sipsey Valley.

Sparks was the winning pitcher, facing nine batters and striking out eight in three innings on the mound. She allowed no walks, no hits and no runs. Montana Taylor went 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored.

Kalli Isbell took the loss for Sipsey Valley, allowing nine hits, 10 runs and five walks.

Sipsey Valley did not have any hits.

 

Tuscaloosa Academy 7,

Southern Academy 4

TUSCALOOSA | Brittany Ledbetter allowed two hits, one walk and struck out seven in 3 23 innings for the Tuscaloosa Academy win. She had two doubles and a single. Chassiti Kimbrell had a two RBI double, Kaci Cochran had three hits, including a two-run single.

 

Marengo Academy 5,

Escambia Academy 4

GROVE HILL | Alexia Johnson hit a fly ball to right field to score Reesa Holifield in the bottom of the fifth inning to lift Marengo Academy at Clarke Prep’s Gator Classic.

Andrea Edmonds allowed six hits, six strikeouts and three walks. Chandler Stenz was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Sweet Water 1

MOUNDVILLE | Lauren Averette and Jayci Jones combined for the win. Averette pitched two innings and allowed no hits, no runs and no walks.

Jones allowed three hits, one run and one strikeout.

Averette went 3-for-3 with three singles and two RBIs.

 

Bibb County 3,

American Christian 1

TUSCALOOSA | In play at Hillcrest’s Patriot Classic, Haley Suttle hit 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Kara Pinkston was 1-for-1 for Bibb County (2-0). Mandi Woodruff (2-0) was winning pitcher, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out 10 batters.

Chandler Dare got American Christian Academy’s lone hit.

Central 10, Wenonah 5

BIRMINGHAM | Cameron Rice went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, Jamel Stewart was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Jason Long was 2-for-4 with an RBI in Central’s road win, giving the Falcons (2-1) their best start in five years. Long was the winning pitcher.

South Choctaw Academy 2

GROVE HILL | In play in Clarke Prep’s Gator Classic, Marengo Academy (1-0) had five players, each with two hits, lead the win, including Hayden Huckabee, Hayden Hall, Brant Lewis, Tait Sanford and Wyatt Hale. Brad Collins won the season opener on the mound, pitching three innings, striking out five and allowing no runs and one walk.
