ROUNDUP: Tuscaloosa Academy starts season with sweep

TUSCALOOSA | Tuscaloosa Academy (2-0) opened its baseball season with two home wins Monday, sweeping Monroe Academy 9-2 and 10-2.
Lathan Johnson (1-0) took the 9-2 opening win, pitching seven innings and allowing two earned runs. He struck out seven batters and gave up four hits. At the plate, Kyle Andrews was 2-for-2 with a two-run home run.
In the 10-2 win, William Heath was 2-for-3 with a run scored, and Johnson was 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored. Andrews (1-0) was the winning pitcher, throwing six innings and allowing two runs and seven hits with four strikeouts and three walks.

HUNTSVILLE | The Wildcats won the season opener at Sparkman, led by a three-run home run from Tyler Gates and a two-run home run from Brandon Hall. Landon Andrews (1-0) was Tuscaloosa’s County’s winning pitcher and went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

DECATUR | Tyler Gates struck out 13 batters in five innings in Tuscaloosa County’s (2-0) win. Ted Colburn hit a solo home run and a three-run home run in his three at-bats. Landon Andrews had a home run and hit 2-for-3.
TUSCALOOSA | In the first game of a season-opening doubleheader, Graham Limbaugh went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Kyle Stuart was 3-for-4 with and RBI, and Clayton Cheshire was 1-for-3 with two RBIs in Northridge’s win. The winning pitcher was Alex London. In five innings he gave up one hit and one run and struck out five.
In game two, Zack Coker stuck out eight batters in four innings and allowed two runs on three hits to get the win for Northridge. Matthew Langston was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Tanner Cline was 1-for-2 with a double, an RBI and two runs.
