ROUNDUP: Central girls advance to regional tourney


TUSCALOOSA | The Central High School girls basketball team advanced to the AHSAA Class 5A Regional Tournament with its 49-34 subregional home win on Thursday.

Toborsha Holley led Central (24-5) with 16 points and three steals. Lawanda Maddox had 14 points and seen rebounds. Jerlissa Matthews had 10 points, and Delisha Dent led the Lady Falcons with 11 rebounds.

Selma (20-12) was led by 11 points from Kendra McCovery.

 

Class 5A, Central SubRegional

Sumter Central 57,

Paul W. Bryant 47

YORK | Sumter Central’s Denetria Ruffin scored 16 points, Shaquala Bryant scored 15 and Sarabi Jemison 11 for the win that advances the Lady Jaguars (21-5) to next week’s regional hosted by Alabama State.

Leading scorers for Paul W. Bryant (13-13) were Marquanda Anderson with 19 points and four blocks and Jade Ledet with eight points, six rebounds and three steals.

 

Class 2A Central Subregional

Aliceville 50,

Choctaw County 32

ALICEVILLE | Zharia Eddins led the Yellow Jackets with 14 points and five assists, while Kathlyn Shamery followed up with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Angellique Chess led Choctaw County with 17 points.

 

Class 3A Central Subregional

Greensboro 65,

Holt 31

GREENSBORO | Maleshia Williams led the Raiders with 23 points, 10 rebounds, 10 steals and seven assists. Elexus Evans followed up with 12 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks.

KEITH | Keith spoiled Berry’s (23-7) hopes of advancing deeper into the playoffs.

The Lady Wildcats lost leading scorer Emma Herren in the third period when she fouled out. Herren scored 16 points. Taylor Jones also had 16 points to go with 10 rebounds, and Karlie Milligan scored 11.

Keith’s trio of scoring leaders included Lytesha Phillips with 16, and both Harriet Winchester and Stephanie Carson with 15 points.

 

Class 3A Central Subregional

Greene County 48,

American Christian Academy 36

TUSCALOOSA | Co-scoring leaders, both with 11 points, Ashley Winn and Sacorya Jackson led Greene County’s win.

Nicole Vester added 10 points. Greene County (9-14) advances to the Central Regional next week.

Chandler Dare led all scorers and American Christian Academy (15-12) with 13 points. Haleigh Howell and Ally English were next highest scorers, both with seven points. Howell led ACA with nine rebounds.

TUSCALOOSA | Trey O’Bryant and Walter hall led the Jaguars with two goals apiece while Cooper Herrington followed up with one goal. Goalkeeper Morgan Wilson preserved the shutout.

TUSCALOOSA | At the Tuscaloosa Metro Tournament, Joanna Zambrano, Amanda Baker and Kailey Bissell each scored two goals while Lee Almond, A.C. Scogin, Annika Struthwulf and Julia Hocutt scored one goal. Goalkeeper Manon Kilgore preserved the shutout.

 

Northridge 9, Holy Spirit 0

TUSCALOOSA | At the Tuscaloosa Metro Tournament, Joanna Zambrano led the Jaguars with four goals. Annika Struthwulf scored two, while Kailey Bissell, A.C. Scogin and Melany Brown had one goal each. Goalkeeper Manon Kilgore earned the shutout.
