BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Sumter Central upsets No. 10 Hillcrest

YORK | Sumter Central (19-4) upset No. 10 Hillcrest 64-57 Thursday night in boys high school basketball action.

Jykwentin Johnson scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the win, while Dayvon Maye, Fred Seals and Donnell Childers each scored 13.

Hillcrest was led by James Thomas with 13 points and both Rayshawn Tubbs and Marcus Matthews with 12 points.


Central 73, Sipsey Valley 58

BUHL | Javoris Richey scored 29 points to lead Central (19-6) to a 73-58 win at Sipsey Valley on Thursday. The Falcons were also led by Eddie Harris with 15 points and Jaylin Beard with 11.

High scorers for Sipsey Valley (21-6) were Palmer Cabaniss with 17 and Jamarius Leatherwood with 15 points and a team-leading seven rebounds. Garret Lewis led with five assists.


American Christian 48, Hale County 45

TUSCALOOSA | Blake Sanderson scored 13 and Carter McGill 10 to lead American Christian Academy’s (18-6) 48-45 home win against Hale County.

Rod Lavender scored 14 for Hale County.


Lynn 48, Berry 47

BERRY | Kyle Mederios scored 18 points and Ben Cagle 14 to lead Lynn’s 48-47 win at Berry.

Three Berry (7-18, 2-6) players scored in double figures, led by Neil Sullivan with 14 points, Weston Bonner with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Tank Hollingsworth with 10 points.


Phillips-Bear Creek 39, Hubbertville 27

BEAR CREEK | Phillips beat Hubbertville 39-27 behind 10 points from Rodney Camp.

Hubbertville’s (6-14) co-scoring leaders with eight points were Vess Benton and McKain Hubbert.


Linden 61, Greene County 49

LINDEN | No. 5 ranked Linden (20-1) was a 61-49 winner at home against Greene County.

Imoras Agee, who made four 3-point baskets in the first period, ended the game with 21 points. Shauka Reese had 18 points and six assists, and Anthony Robinson, Jr. had nine points, six rebounds, six assists and six steals.

Brandon Williams led Greene County with 17 points.


Tuscaloosa Academy 60, Escambia Academy 50

SELMA | No. 7 Tuscaloosa Academy defeated Escambia Academy in first-round play in the AISA, Class AAA Region 2 tournament hosted by Morgan Academy. Tuscaloosa Academy (20-7) will play Fort Dale Academy today at 4:30 p.m. in Selma.

Torrence Brown scored 25 points and Sam Brown had 12 points and five assists for the Knights.


Aliceville 60, Akron 55

ALICEVILLE | Ken Little scored 22 and Derrick Jones 11 to lead Aliceville (14-6) in a 60-55 win against Akron.

Akron’s leaders were Demarcus Morse with 19 and Quinn Jeffery with 14.
