BOYS ROUNDUP: Patriots beat Wildcats on free throw

TUSCALOOSA | Marcus Matthews made a free throw with 5 seconds remaining to lift Hillcrest (18-7, 5-1) to a 57-56 home win against Tuscaloosa County in a AHSAA Class 6A, Area 13 boys basketball game Tuesday night.
Rayshawn Tubbs led Hillcrest’s scoring with 21 points. Also scoring in double figures for the Patriots was Quenton Cross with 13 points.
Justice Green scored 26 point to lead all scorers and Tuscaloosa County.
Hillcrest will host the Class 6A, Area 13 tournament, which begins Feb. 8.
AKRON | Shauka Reese scored 20 points to lead Linden (19-1) at Akron (10-12, 5-3) in an AHSAA Class 3A, Area 4 game.
Imoras Agee had 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Patriots. Chris Rogers had 10 points with 11 rebounds.
Akron was led by Johnny Tubbs with 20 points and Quin Jeffery with 17.
Sipsey Valley 43,
Greene County 38
EUTAW | In a AHSAA Class 3A, Area 6 road win at Greene County, Sipsey Valley’s (21-5, 4-2) Rasheed Worrell scored 16 points and had eight rebounds. Juston Smith-Wells had 13 points and Braylan Smith had a team-leading five steals.
Devin Merriweather was the high scorer for Greene County with 12 points.
Bessemer City 64,
BESSEMER | Timothy Collins scored 19 points to lead Bessemer City to a win against visiting Northrige (10-16, 2-4) in a AHSAA Class 6A, Area 13 game.
Northridge’s leading scorers were C’yontai Lewis with 17, and both Bo Scarbrough and Desharis Dobbin with nine each.
South Lamar 50,
HUBBERTVILLE | South Lamar’s JyDarren Cox had18 points and 11 rebounds to help the Stallions improve to 11-8.
Teammate Holden Fields scored 13 points.
American Christian 61, Berry 31
BERRY | American Christian Academy’s Carter McGill scored 13 points to lead the Patriots (17-6).
Berry’s Terrance "Tank’ Hollingsworth had eight points. Roman Howlton had 10 rebounds.
Greensboro 85, Gordo 54
GORDO | Greensboro’s Donald King scored 25 points to help the Raiders improve to 21-2.
Teammate Kavoris Owens scored 13 points. Jevontey Smith scored 11 points.
Gordo’s Dee White had 21 points.
North River Christian 79, Tabernacle Christian 34
TUSCALOOSA | North River Christian Academy’s LaDerrick Rice and Josh Harris each scored 16 points for the Chargers (13-1).
Teammate Matt Robertson had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jeremiah Cousette scored 12 points with 10 rebounds.
Tabernacle Christian’s Caleb Thompson had 16 points.

GREENVILLE | Sumter Central’s Donnell Childress scored 23 points to help the Jaguars improve to 18-4.
Teammate Fred Seals scored 14 points.

WEST BLOCTON | Northside’s Zarrian Grant scored 27 points tohelp the Rams improve to 11-8.
West Blocton’s Steve Thrasher scored 16 points. Damien Davis scored 15 points.

CENTREVILLE | With Bibb County leading by one point, Buster Goode forced a turnover and made a go-ahead slam dunk as the Choctaws improved to 11-12.

MOUNDVILLE | Hale County rallied to tie the game late, then won to improve to 7-13.
Hale County’s Rod Arnold scored 21 points with 10 rebounds. T.C. Lavender scored 11 points and Blake Williams scored 10 points.
