BOYS ROUNDUP: Buzzer-beater lifts Northside over Holy Spirit


AMANTHA | Patrick Gear hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send Northside to a 39-38 victory over visiting Holy Spirit in high school boys basketball action Tuesday night.

With Holy Spirit leading 37-33, the Rams’ Tanner Colburn hit a 3-pointer. A foul sent Holy Spirit to the free-throw line, and the Titans took a 38-36 lead. Gear then hit his 3-pointer at the buzzer for the win.

Gear led the Rams with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Ty Cooper scored eight and Hayden Long six.

Holy Spirit’s Jordan Giles led all scorers with 23 points. Sean Campbell scored six.

Northside (7-5) will host Fayette County at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

 

Pickens County 87,

South Lamar 43

MILLPORT | Four players scored in double figures to lead Pickens County.

Darius Jones led all scorers with 19 points. He also had two rebounds and a steal. Laron Thomas had 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Bobby Bradford had 13 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals, and Devonte Simon had 10 points, five rebounds, two assists and five steals.

The high scorers for South Lamar were Holden Fields with 12 and Jadarren Cox with 11 points.

Pickens County (8-3, 5-0 Class 1A, Area 8) will host Gordo at 7 p.m. Monday.

 

McAdory 33,

Brookwood 30

BROOKWOOD | In a frenzied series of plays in the final seconds, Brookwood’s Cody Gaither hit a 3-point shot with 3.2 seconds remaining in the game to pull Brookwood to within three points. The Panthers caused McAdory to turn the ball over on the inbounds play, giving Brookwood a look and a chance at a buzzer-beater, but the shot missed.

Gaither ended the game leading all scorers with 19 points. Zach Lee scored six points.

Byron Deramus scored 10 to lead McAdory.

Brookwood (1-18, 0-3 Class 5A, Area 7) plays at Paul W. Bryant on Friday.

 

Southern Academy 35,

Pickens Academy 29

CARROLLTON | Dylan Bamberg scored 17 points and Hunter Clements nine to lead Southern Academy.

Josh Lewis was Pickens Academy’s scoring leader with 12 points.

Southern Academy (7-8) plays at Restoration Academy on Friday.

 

Sipsey Valley 71,

Gordo 64

BUHL | Sipsey Valley tied its school record for wins.

The Bears are now 16-3 overall and 2-0 in AHSAA Class 3A, Area 6 play.

Rasheed Worrell scored 19 points and pulled down 17 rebounds to lead the win. Juston Smith-Wells scored 16 points, Garret Lewis 14 and Jamarius Leatherwood 11.

Braylan Smith led the team with five assists.

Lewis made four 3-pointers.

The scoring leaders for Gordo were Mike White and Devin Prude with 15 points apiece.

Sipsey Valley plays at American Christian Academy at 7 p.m. Thursday.

 

Brilliant 67,

Hubbertville 51

BRILLIANT | Riley Cole scored 16 points to lead Brilliant.

Aaron Dillard and David Aldridge led Hubbertville with 15 points apiece.

Hubbertville (4-6) hosts Holy Spirit on Thursday.
