GIRLS ROUNDUP: Brookwood falls in 2OT thriller

BROOKWOOD | Brookwood fell short with a missed last-second shot at the end of the second overtime Tuesday night to fall at home 67-64 to McAdory in an AHSAA Class 5A, Area 7 girls basketball game.

Brookwood’s Caitlin Headrick, who ended the game with a career-high 30 points, made two free throws with a tenth of a second remaining in regulation to tie the score at 50.

Brookwood came back again at the end of the first overtime when, with five tenths of a second remaining, Ashley Brasher made a free throw to tie the score at 58.

Trailing by three in the final seconds of the second overtime, Brookwood saw its luck run out. A 3-point try at the buzzer missed.

Headrick’s 30 points bettered her previous best, set twice this season, of 29. Benita Lee scored 16 for Brookwood.

Sydney King scored 18 and Chaquesha Prince 15 to lead McAdory.

Brookwood (10-6) plays at Paul W. Bryant at 5 p.m. Friday.


Marengo Academy 52,

Patrician Academy 47

BUTLER | Brooke Smyly scored 22 points and made eight rebounds and was one of three double-digit scorers to help No. 5-ranked Marengo Academy extend its perfect season to 16-0.

Chandler Stenz had 13 points and Andrea Edmonds 11 points and six rebounds.

Marengo Academy (16-0) plays at South Choctaw Academy at 6 p.m. Friday.

Holy Spirit 51,

Northside 20

SAMANTHA | Caroline Sisson scored 15 and Tamera Giles 12 points to lead Holy Spirit.

Northside’s leading scorer, with 12 points, was Ashton Welborn.

Holy Spirit (2-10) plays at Hubbertville on Thursday.


Cold Springs 50,

Lamar County 37

VERNON | Malika Swanigan scored 21 points and Kelsey Myles 12 points for Lamar County.

Lamar County (8-2) plays at Sulligent at 5 p.m. Friday.


Pickens Academy 37,

Southern Academy 23

CARROLLTON | Eighth-grader Kacy Noland scored 14 points and made seven rebounds to lead Pickens Academy.

Marion Colvin had eight points and seven rebounds, and Elisabeth Hankins added seven rebounds and five steals in the win.

Southern Academy was led by Katlyn Tidmore with seven points.

Pickens Academy (11-1) hosts Patrician Academy at home at 6 p.m. Monday.


Brilliant 47,

Hubbertville 19

BRILLIANT | Lauren Koys scored 14 points to lead Brilliant.

Summer Tucker, Kaylee Jones and Stormie Gray led Hubbertville in scoring, each with four points.

Gray led the team with 12 rebounds.
