GIRLS ROUNDUP: Brookwood routs Sipsey Valley


TUSCALOOSA | Caitlin Headrick scored 16 points in leading the Brookwood girls basketball team to a 61-16 victory over Sipsey Valley in the Lady Falcon Invitational at Central High School on Friday.

Lauren Clark added 15 points for Brookwood (9-4). Bethany Williams came off the bench to score 10 points and get nine rebounds. Mesha Martin came off the bench and scored eight points.

Savannah Armstead led Sipsey Valley with six points.

The Lady Falcons (11-1) will play Akron at 2 this afternoon. Brookwood is set to take on Ramsay at 3:30. Ramsay defeated Paul W. Bryant on Friday, according to Central coach Michael Rivers.

The consolation game is today at 4:30 p.m., followed by the championship game at 6:30.

 

Northridge 47,

Hartselle 43

HANCEVILLE | Senior guard Kiana Johnson scored 22 points, and the Northridge Lady Jaguars defeated Hartselle in the Yuletide Classic at Wallace State Community College.

Shameka Tubbs scored 17 points for the Lady Jaguars (10-7). Kaylee Shelton led Hartselle with 11 points.

Northridge plays Athens in the championship game at 6:30 tonight.

 

Covington 60, ACA 39

HUNTSVILLE | Ally English scored a team-high 13 points for the American Christian Academy Lady Patriots, who lost in the championship game of the Westminster Christian Christmas Tournament.

Chandler Dare added 12 points for ACA (4-7) and was named to the all-tournament team. Krislyn Thompson collected eight rebounds.

Anna Noblit scored 27 points to lead Covington (15-1). Elizabeth Mitchell had 10 points.

 

Berry 45, Belgreen 42

FAYETTE | Most valuable player Taylor Jones had 18 points and nine rebounds in leading the Berry Lady Wildcats to the championship in the Lions Club Tournament.

Karlie Milligen scored 15 points for Berry (13-1). Emma Herren, an all-tournament selection, scored six points and had seven rebounds and six steals.

Belgreen’s Allyson Bragwell scored 14 points, and Laken Bragwell scored 12 points.

Sulligent won the championship in the boys division by defeating Belgreen 49-46.

The Berry girls will host Holy Spirit on Jan. 4.

 

Marengo Academy 45,

Lamar School 38

BUTLER | Chandler Stenz scored 18 points and made two steals in Marengo Academy’s victory in the War on the Floor Tournament at Patrician Academy.

Andrea Edmonds had 14 points and six rebounds for Marengo Academy (13-0). Katie Tucker had nine points and two steals. Anna Michael Crocker had 11 rebounds, and Brooke Smyly had eight rebounds and three blocked shots.

Olivia Mabry scored 20 points to lead Lamar. Allie Shirley had 10 points.

Marengo Academy plays Russell Christian at noon today.

 

Lamar County 59,

Marion County 29

VERNON | Malika Swanigan scored 21 points and had seven steals and seven assists in leading the Lamar County Lady Bulldogs to a victory over Marion County.

Keeli Bobbit had 16 points and five rebounds for Lamar County (6-1). Kelsey Myles had 11 points and five rebounds.

Marion County’s Brianna Johnson and Eric Walker scored 10 points each.

Lamar County plays at home in Vernon against Caledonia, Miss., next Friday.

 

Southern Academy 40,

So. Choctaw Academy 33

SELMA | Shelbie Clary scored 17 points as Southern Academy defeated South Choctaw Academy in a tournament at Morgan Academy.

Ashly Hamilton added 11 points for Southern Academy.

Bree Manning led South Choctaw Academy with eight points.

Southern Academy (6-6) continues tournament play with a game against Clarke Prep at 3:30 this afternoon.

 

Aliceville 51,

Pickens County 28

GORDO | Joneshia Jordan scored 13 points in leading Aliceville to a win in the Pickens County Tournament.

Jordan finished with six rebounds and three steals. Katelyn Shamery had nine points, four rebounds and two steals for the Lady Yellow Jackets (8-4). T’Keyah Plott had six points and six steals.

Pickens County’s Mariel Tellis and Kailyandria Lanier each scored seven points.

Aliceville plays Gordo at 3 this afternoon.

 

Tuscaloosa Academy 55,

Russell Christian 12

BUTLER | Twelve of 13 players scored for the Knights in the War on the Floor Tournament at Patrician Academy

Krissy Pruitt led the Knights with nine points. Lillie Sansing scored eight points.

TA (10-4) plays against Wayne Academy at 3 p.m. today in the tournament.
