BOYS ROUNDUP: Sipsey Valley edges Winfield with late 3-pointer


WINFIELD | Juston Smith-Wells nailed a 3-point shot with 2.8 seconds left Thursday, and the Sipsey Valley boys basketball team defeated Winfield 69-66 in the Winfield Christmas Tournament.

Smith-Wells finished with 14 points. Garret Lewis led all scorers with 19 points. Jamarius Leatherwood had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Rasheed Worrell had 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Jordan Junkin scored 14 points to lead Winfield (9-4). Ryan Spann had 12 points.

Sipsey Valley (12-3) continues tournament play with a game at 4:45 this afternoon against Itawamba from Mississippi.

 

ACA 71, Athens Bible School 38

HUNTSVILLE | All 10 players scored as the American Christian Academy Patriots defeated Athens Bible School in the Westminster Christian Christmas Tournament.

Carter McGill and John Mills had 14 points each for the Patriots (9-3). Chris Mobley added 13 points.

ACA plays Westminster Christian in the championship game at 5:30 this afternoon.

 

Bibb County 63, Marbury 36

CALERA | Jerrell Goode scored 12 points as the Bibb County Choctaws defeated Marbury in the Calera Invitational.

Bibb County coach Russ Wallace said Goode is a 6-foot-3 senior guard who recently became eligible.

"He did a real good job handling the ball for us," Wallace said. "He’s smart. He understands the game, and it showed tonight."

Buster Goode added 11 points for the Choctaws.

Devon Brown scored 22 points to lead Marbury.

Bibb County (5-7) continues tournament play with a game against Smiths Station tonight.

 

Tuscaloosa Academy 49, Wayne Academy 24

BUTLER | Pride Snow led the Knights with 10 points and Sam Brown scored nine in the War on the Floor Tournament.

TA (12-1) plays today in the tournament against Russell Christian at 4:30 p.m.
