BOYS ROUNDUP: Bryant works OT to beat Pickens County

REFORM | Paul W. Bryant (8-1) outscored Pickens County 11-2 in overtime to win 78-69 in boys high school basketball Tuesday night.

James Currington led Bryant with 20 points and 15 rebounds and Dexter Hood scored 17 points, while Kevin Holland added 16. Tony Whitehead had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Pickens County was led by Devonte Simon with 19 points. Jermarcus Brown and Darius Jones scored 16 and 13 points, respectively.

Bryant will host Bibb County at 7 p.m. Thursday.


Central 68, Hale County 56

MOUNDVILLE | Javoris Richey scored a team-high 19 points for Central, Terrance Rice added 16 and Vincent Davis scored 10 for the Falcons.

Hale County was led by Rod Arnold with 21 points, while T.D. Lavender added 13.

Central (6-1) hosts Paul W. Bryant at 7 p.m. Friday. Hale County plays at Francis Marion at 7:30 p.m. in a Class 2A, Area 7 game.


Northside 61, Berry 39

NORTHPORT | Andrew Robinson hit six 3-pointers to lead Northside (5-2).

Robinson finished with 18 points and Zarrian Grant added 20 points for the Rams.

Berry (2-4) was led by Neil Sullivan with 16 points.

Northside plays at Fayette County at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Berry will host Hubbertville at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.


Sumter Central 69, Northridge 50

YORK | Sumter Central’s Jykwentin Johnson had 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Fred Seals had 17 points and 10 rebounds. Dayvon Maye added 13 points for Sumter Central (9-1).

Northridge (3-7) was led by C’yontai Lewis with 16 points and eight rebounds. Tre Leatherwood had 13 points. Bo Scarbrough had 14 rebounds.


Sipsey Valley 54, Gordo 42

GORDO | Rasheed Worrell finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds and Juston Smith-Wells had 13 points for the Bears (7-3, 1-0) in the Class 3A, Area 6 opener for both teams.

Jamarius Leatherwood added 10 for Sipsey Valley.

Gordo was led by Ben Davis with 12 points.


Hubbertville 53,

South Lamar 52

MILLPORT | Vess Benton made two free throws with 19.3 seconds left for Hubbertville (3-2, 1-2 Class 1A, Area 8), providing the winning margin.

David Aldridge scored 16 points for Hubbertville. Aaron Dillard added 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Holden Fields led South Lamar with 22 points, and Dave Cole scored 14 points.


Hillcrest 55, Ramsey 35

BIRMINGHAM | Everyone on Hillcrest (6-3) scored as the Patriots routed Ramsey.

Hillcrest was led by Rayshawn Tubbs’ 16 points.

Hillcrest will host Bessemer City at 7: 30 p.m. Friday.


Akron 63,

Greene County 56

AKRON | DeMarcus Morse scored 33 points and Quin Jeffries scored 17 points to lead Akron (4-6) over Greene County (1-3) at home.

Akron will host A.L. Johnson on Friday.
