GIRLS ROUNDUP: TCHS holds on for win over Walker

TUSCALOOSA | Though Walker had a chance to score in the waning seconds of the game, Ayriona Smith pressured the Walker players and did not give up a bucket, allowing Tuscaloosa County to hold on for a 39-37 win in the back-and-forth girls high school basketball game despite playing short-handed.
The score was tied at 22 at the half, even though Tuscaloosa County dressed out only seven girls due to injuries, and starting point guard Katlyn Madison had to leave the game in the first quarter due to another injury.
Offensively, TCHS was led by Katie Krout, who scored 14 points and had 12 rebounds, and Shakirra Thomas, who had eight points, eight rebounds and six steals.
For Walker, Sidney Cooper had 13 points and seven steals and Madison Hood had 11 points and six assists.
Tuscaloosa County (4-0) will host Holt at 6 p.m. today.
Marengo Academy 53, Escambia Academy 35
ATMORE | Brooke Smyly scored 18 and had eight rebounds to lead Marengo Academy to a win over Escambia Academy.
Though the game was tied 27-27 at the half, Marengo Academy pulled away behind a strong defensive effort.
Also for Marengo, Chandler Stenz had 14 points and six assists, Andrea Edmonds had eight points and seven rebounds, Katie Tucker had five points and three steals and Anna Michael Crocker had two points, seven rebounds and four assists.
For Escambia Academy, Grayson Emmons led the team with 14 points and Lacie Flowers scored 13 more.
Marengo (3-0) will next play at Jackson Academy at 6 p.m. Monday.
Escambia falls to 3-1.
Pickens Academy 52, Bessemer Academy 15
CARROLTON | Marion Colvin scored 12 points and had 12 rebounds as Pickens Academy routed Bessemer Academy.
Also for Pickens, Katie McKinzey scored 10 points, Kacy Noland had nine points and Abigail Colvin scored eight.
For Bessemer, Hannah Kitchens had nine points.
Pickens Academy (2-0) will next play at North River Christian at 6 p.m. Monday
Bessemer is now 0-1.
Hamilton 51, Sulligent 46
SULLIGENT | Brittany Gainey scored 13 points and Katie Humphries had 11 in leading Hamilton to a win over Sulligent (2-2).
Laura Ashley Dean had 12 points for Sulligent. Mirace Bonman and Precious Bonman scored eight points each.
Sulligent plays at Cold Springs on Tuesday.
Tuscaloosa Christian 52, Marion Academy 20
COTTONDALE | Savannah Logan scored 22 points as Tuscaloosa Christian trounced Marion Academy.
Alexandra Gibson scored 12 points and Sydney Marks added eight more for Tuscaloosa.
For Marion Academy, Kathy Morris had 10 points.
Tuscaloosa Christian (2-1) will host Brooklane Baptist of Hueytown at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Berry 55, Northside 24
SAMANTHA | Karlie Milligan scored 17 points to lead Berry to a rout of Northside in the Northside Invitational Tournament.
Also for Berry, Taylor Jones and Rayanna Clark each scored 12.
For Northside, Rileigh Malone scored 16 points and Ashton Welborn scored seven.
Berry (1-0) will play in championship today against West Blocton at 6:30 p.m.
Northside (0-4) will play Oakman in the consolation game at 4 p.m.
