BOYS ROUNDUP: Jackson leads Holt past Hale County


HOLT | Zaviuen Jackson scored 30 points and had 16 rebounds to lead Holt to a 63-58 win over Hale County on Tuesday night in high school boys basketball.

Also for Holt, Ladarrious Toney had 14 points and Devin Crawford scored 11.

For Hale County, Rod Arnold had 15 points, Taderrius Lavendar and Jonathon Knox each scored 13 and Wyman King scored 11.

Holt (2-1) plays Carbon Hill at the Brookwood Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday.

Hale County (0-1) will host Brookwood at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Tuscaloosa Academy 61,

Wayne Academy 31

WAYNESBORO, Miss. | Carter Standeffer had 11 points for the Knights (2-0). Harrison Standeffer had 10 points and two steals. Sam Brown finished with nine points.

Tuscaloosa Academy, which led 12-5 at the end of the first quarter, scored 28 in the second to take a 40-15 halftime lead. Austin Menard had eight points, and Pride Snow and Carter Standeffer scored six each in the second.

Tuscaloosa Academy hosts Restoration Academy at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

 

Tuscaloosa County 59,

Holy Family 51

BIRMINGHAM | Tuscaloosa County (1-1) held on for the win after a 35-point second half by Holy Family in the second round of the Chelsea/Briarwood Thanksgiving Tournament.

Justice Green scored 17 points to lead the Wildcats, and Javel Bailey added 14 points.

Tuscaloosa County will face John Carroll at Chelsey High School at noon today.

 

Hillcrest 65,

Jefferson Davis 63

VESTAVIA HILLS | Jarad Pruitt hit two free throws with two tenths of a second remaining to lift Hillcrest in the opening round of the 34th Annual Sneaky Pete’s Rebel Classic.

The Patriots were led by Rayshaun Tubbs’ 16 points. Quinton Cross added 15 points, while James Thomas scored 10.

James Thomas led Jefferson Davis with 10 points.

Hillcrest will face Homewood in the second round at 6:30 tonight.

 

Sumter Central 66,

Brookwood 42

YORK | Tykwentin Johnson scored 21 points to lift Sumter Central (3-0) over Brookwood (0-6)

Fred Seals was also crucial for Sumter Central with 13 points.

Brookwood was led by Cody Gaither’s 16-point effort, and Zach Lee contributed 13 points.

Brookwood hosts Akron at 7 p.m. Friday in the Brookwood Thanksgiving Tournament, while Sumter Central travels to face Keith in the Keith Thanksgiving Tournament.

 

Sipsey Valley 56,

Phil Campbell 40

HALEYVILLE | Rasheed Worrell had a double-double to help Sipsey Valley win in the first round of the Haleyville Thanksgiving Tournament.

Worrell had 14 points with 10 rebounds and Jamarius Leatherwood added 12 points for Sipsey Valley.

Garret Lewis had four steals for the Bears.

Phil Campbell was led by Skeeter Benford, who had 16 points, and Colton Vickery’s 10 points.

Sipsey Valley will face Parrish at 6 tonight in the second round of the tournament.

 

Hoover 73, Northridge 60

COLUMBIANA | C’yontai Lewis had 30 points and eight rebounds, but Northridge still fell to Hoover in the Charles Dickinson Thanksgiving Tournament played at Shelby County.

Hoover was led by Brannon Gefore, who scored 21 points, and Kaleb Baugh, who had 13 points.

Northridge (2-2) plays loser of Shelby County and Ramsey today at 5 p.m., while Hoover faces the winner at 8 p.m.
