GIRLS ROUNDUP: Central tops Hillcrest in overtime

TUSCALOOSA | Hillcrest’s Ambrica Johnson scored 25 points, including a buzzer-beating jump shot to force overtime, but it was not enough to top Central. The Lady Falcons defeated Hillcrest 65-61 Tuesday night in overtime.

Central (3-0) was led by Toborsha Holley’s 20 points and three assists. Jerlissa Matthews added 18 points and seven rebounds. Lawanda Maddix had eight points for the Lady Falcons.

For Hillcrest, Charity Brown had 12 points and Carmen Chaparro had nine.

Central travels Northridge at 6 p.m. Friday.


Paul W. Bryant 31, Greensboro 27, OT

COTTONDALE | Bryant erased a 20-13 third-quarter deficit to force overtime and defeat Greensboro.

The Lady Stampede (1-0) was led by Tila Green’s 12 points, while Jade Ledet and Shannel Washington each scored seven. Bria Smith added 10 rebounds.

Malesha Williams led Greensboro with 10 points, and Elexis Evans scored eight.

Paul W. Bryant will host Hillcrest at 6:15 p.m. Friday.


Altamont 30, American Christian 27

TUSCALOOSA | ACA led 25-15 to begin the fourth quarter but could not hold on at home.

The Lady Patriots (0-1) were led by Ally English, who scored 18 points, and Kristen Thompson, who had nine rebounds.

Altamont was led by Morgan Smoke’s 25 points.

ACA will travel to Akron at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.


Brookwood 47, Holt 15

BROOKWOOD | Brookwood (1-0) led 44-11 heading into the fourth quarter and cruised to an easy victory.

Brookwood was led by Kaitlin Headrick and Lauren Clark, who scored 15 points each.

Kanesha Maddox led Holt (0-1) with five points.

Brookwood will host Northridge at 6 p.m. Thursday.
