Lewis named Player of the Week

Sipsey Valley quarterback threw for 310 yards and four touchdowns against Holt. He threw touchdown passes of 90 yards to Caleb Kuykendall and 84 yards to Braylan Smith and rushed for 49 rushing yards, including a 10-yard touchown. For his efforts, Lewis earned High School Football Player of the Week honors from The Tuscaloosa News.
With quarterback Garret Lewis running the show, the Sipsey Valley Bears remained in the hunt for their first AHSAA playoff berth in their third season. Sipsey Valley beat Holt 63-30 to improve to 4-4 overall, 3-3 in Class 3A, Region 3.
Lewis completed 10 of 11 passes for 310 yards and four touchdowns. He threw touchdown passes of 90 yards to Caleb Kuykendall and 84 yards to Braylan Smith and rushed for 49 rushing yards, including a 10-yard touchown. For his efforts, Lewis earned High School Football Player of the Week honors from The Tuscaloosa News.
Several other players had standout performances to garner honorable mention:
n Xavier McCollum of Winfield rushed for 214 yards on 26 carries and scored five touchdowns in a 45-32 loss to Vinemont. McCollum scored on runs of 4, 17, 24, 5 and 9 yards.
n Tank Hollingsworth of Berry rushed for 212 yards and four touchdows in a 42-7 win over South Lamar. He scored on runs of 17, 24, 55 and 62 yards.
n Roderick Davis of Demopolis rushed for 209 yards on 10 carries and scored on a 66-yard run in a 47-0 victory over Satsuma.
n Tucker Jones of Demopolis threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score in the win over Satsuma.
n Zarrian Grant of Northside, running back rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns in a 62-8 win over Greene County. Grant’s longest touchdown run covered 85 yards. His interception and return into Greene County territory set up Northside’s first touchdown.
n Aaron Dillard of Hubbertville ran for a touchdown and threw scoring passes of 87 and 12 yards in a 39-16 win over Brilliant.
n Tevin Madison of Fayette County caught two touchdown passes and ran for a score in a 33-6 win over American Christian Academy.
n Shade Pritchett of Marengo Academy threw three touchdown passes to Tyler Barkley in a 37-12 win over Sumter Academy.
n Josh Holifield of Marengo Academy gained 195 yards on 21 carries and scored on runs of 49 and 9 yards in the win over Sumter Academy.
n Jaevon Walton of Tuscaloosa Academy ran for 134 yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns in a 42-7 win over Kingwood Christian.
n Josh Lewis of Pickens Academy rushed 16 times for 75 yards and a touchdown in a 34-28 loss to Patrician Academy. Lewis scored on a 99-yard kickoff return, threw a touchdown pass and recorded 11 tackles.
n Dallas Cockerham of Lamar County threw for 140 yards and a touchdown and ran for two scores in a 58-28 win over Francis Marion.
nJermarcus Brown of Pickens County gained 111 yards on 19 carries, ran for two touchdowns and scored on an 87-yard kickoff return in a 45-27 loss to Marion County.
