Friday Night Roundup: Sipsey Valley routs Greene County


EUTAW | Trey White rushed for 101 yards and three touchdowns as the Sipsey Valley Bears won their second Class 3A, Region 3 game with a 40-16 victory over Greene County on Friday night.


Quarterback Garret Lewis passed for 170 yards and two touchdowns to Braylan Smith, who finished with 100 yards receiving.

Dameian Archibald had an interception for the Bears.


Sipsey Valley (3-4, 2-3) travels to Holt next Friday, while Greene County (0-7, 0-5) travels to Northside.


Linden 58, Marengo 0

DIXON MILLS | Anthony Robinson and Jalen Lewis connected often in Linden’s decisive Class 1A, Region 1 win. 


Lewis caught touchdowns of 6, 10 and 21 yards from Robinson. Robinson threw for 262 yards on 13-of-16 passing, all in the first half.


Robinson finished with five passing touchdowns and one 56-yard punt return for a score.


Lewis Kynard caught touchdowns of 15 and 44 yards.


Linden (7-0, 5-0), ranked No. 2 in Class 1A, plays at John Essex next Friday. Marengo (0-7, 0-5) plays at J.U. Blacksher.


Sumter Academy 16, Jackson Academy 7

JACKSON | Sumter Academy had a strong defensive effort to key the AISA Class A, Region 2 victory at Jackson Academy.


The Eagles were led defensively by Mitchell Fox. Sumter Academy held Jackson Academy to 8 yards rushing and also scored a safety. 


On offense, Christopher Yonker gained 159 yards on 23 carries and Nathan Williamson had nine carries for 67 yards, including 37-yard touchdown run. Blake Dial scored from 1 yard out for Sumter Academy’s only other score.


Sumter Academy (4-4, 3-1) hosts Marengo Academy next Friday.


Sunshine 46, Holy Spirit 6

NEWBURN | Paul Erwin, Eddie Fikes and Draterius McCollugh each scored a pair of touchdowns to lead Sunshine in a Class 1A, Region 3 showdown.


Erwin finished with 15 carries for 126 yards and Fikes had 10 carries for 64 yards. McCollugh had scores of 5 and 6 yards. 

Holy Spirit was led by Jake Smith’s 12 carries for 58 yards and William Winter notched 11 tackles, including two for a loss. Luke Simon also had 9 tackles.


Sunshine (2-5, 2-3) travels to Ellwood Christian next Friday, while Holy Spirit (1-6, 0-5) travels to Maplesville.


Pickens Academy 47, Meadowview Christian 19

SELMA | Josh Lewis ran for two touchdowns and threw another and Joel Pratt scored three touchdowns to help Pickens Academy stay unbeaten.


Lewis had 13 carries for 166 yards and threw a 26-yard touchdown to Pratt, who finished with nine carries for 91 yards and scored from 2 yards out twice. 


Garrett Estes also had 19 carries for 154 yards and a score. 


On defense, Pickens Academy was led by Lewis’ nine tackles and Estes’ seven tackes and fumble recovery. Jamison McCrary also blocked a field goal.


Pickens Academy (8-0) host Patrician Academy next Friday.


Aliceville 49, R.C. Hatch 46

ALICEVILLE | Gerald Sterling scored the go-ahead touchdown with 2:46 left to play to lift Aliceville over Region 2A, Region 4 opponent R.C. Hatch.


Sterling finished with 12 carries for 39 yards and two scores and also had six tackles and two sacks. 


Darrion Manning had 16 carries for 66 yards and two touchdowns while Oscar Sommerville had 13 carries for 50 yards and two touchdowns, plus six tackles and a fumble recovery on defense. 


R.C. Hatch was led by De’Roderick Norfleet’s five touchdown passes and Brandon Jones’ four total touchdowns.


Aliceville (4-3, 4-1) hosts Oakman next Friday.


South Choctaw Academy 28, Southern Academy 7

TOXEY | The Southern Academy Cougars fell out of the AISA playoffs with their loss to South Choctaw Academy in an AISA Class AA, Region 2 game.


Dylan Henry scored the Cougars’ lone touchdown on a pass from Clayton Hall.


Southern Academy (2-6, 1-4) travels to Escambia Academy next Friday.
