Plott leads Knights to AISA region crown


PHENIX CITY | Jonathan Plott threw three touchdown passes as the Tuscaloosa Academy Knights wrapped up the AISA Class AAA, Region 1 championship with an easy 44-23 victory over Glenwood Academy on Friday night.


The Knights scored all of their points in the first half as they held a comfortable 44-8 halftime advantage.


Plott threw touchdown passes to Parker Farley, Pride Snow and Clay Thomas.


Jaevon Walton led the Knights in rushing with 136 yards and two touchdowns. He scored on runs of 8 and 2 yards.


Jonathan Teesdale had an 13-yard touchdown run for Tuscaloosa Academy.


Price McGiffert and Farley each had an interception.


Tuscaloosa Academy (8-0, 5-0) hosts Kingwood Christian next Friday for homecoming.


Berry 22, Lynn 6

BERRY | Terrance “Tank” Hollingsworth ran for a touchdown and threw for another to lead Berry in a Class 1A, Region 5 matchup.

Berry coach Danny Raines became the school’s all-time winningest coach with 70 victories.


Hollingsworth had 18 carries for 145 yards including a 54-yard touchdown run. 


He threw a 70-yard touchdown pass to Luke Sanford. 


Defensively, Berry was led by Clancey Brown’s 16 tackles and two sacks. Roman Howton had eight tackles and a sack and Charleston Hudson had seven tackles, a sack and two passes broken up.


Berry (5-2, 4-1) travels to South Lamar next Friday.


Sulligent 28, Francis Marion 0

SULLIGENT | Jamar Plant rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns as the Sulligent Blue Devils shut out Francis Marion in a Class 2A, Region 8 game.


Deion Jenkins had a 92-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and finished with 143 yards rushing.


A.J. Jones scored the last Sulligent touchdown on a 12-yard run.


Juwan Metcalfe led all Sulligent rushers with 168 yards on 10 carries.


Jessie Keller had nine tackles to lead the Blue Devils’ defense.


Sulligent (2-5, 2-3) travels to Hale County next Friday, while Francis Marion (0-7, 0-5) hosts Lamar County.


West Blocton 42, Carbon Hill 14

WEST BLOCTON | Jaylon Gaines rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns and Trace Wilder rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns as West Blocton rolled to a Class 4A, Region 4 victory.


Gaines scored on runs of 2 and 64 yards, while Wilder’s touchdowns occurred on runs of 74 and 49 yards. Behind the rushing duo, the Tigers piled up 460 yards on the ground.


Brody Medders added a 14-yard touchdown run for West Blocton and Leonard Ward scored on a 61-yard run.

West Blocton (2-4, 1-4) travels to Bibb County next Friday.


Marion County 56, South Lamar 7

GUIN | The duo of Ready Swanigan and DeShawn Reibesehl led top-ranked Marion County in the Class 1A, Region 5 win over South Lamar.


Swanigan rushed for 98 yards on four carries with touchdowns of 40 and 58 yards. Swanigan also had punt return scores of 60 and 65 yards.


Reibesehl had scores of 4 and 65 yards and totaled 87 yards rushing. Jared Wallace caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from sophomore Aaron Pollard.


Dylan Wilson scored South Lamar’s lone touchdown on a 4-yard run.


Marion County (7-0, 5-0) travels to No. 5 Pickens County next Friday, while South Lamar (0-7, 0-5) hosts Berry.


Calera 24,  Bibb County 16

CALERA | A Stephen Ellison 20-yard field goal gave Calera the lead over Bibb County and the Eagles scored a late touchdown to pad the lead and take a Class 4A, Region 4 win.


Ronnie Clarke had a game-high 171 rushing yards with scores of 16 and 6 yards. Zachary Reneau went 15 for 17 with 100 yards, including a 6-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Bishop. 


T.J. Lockett passed for 138 yards and one touchdown for Bibb County. Dikembe Aaron rushed for 51 yards with a 3-yard touchdown.


Calera (6-1, 4-1) plays at Oak Grove next Friday. Bibb County (2-4, 2-3) hosts West Blocton.


Keith 32, Akron 25

AKRON | Martavius Harris scored on touchdown runs of 1, 19 and 28 yards as Keith took a Class 1A, Region 3 win to remain undefeated. 


Delmuss Irby had touchdown runs of 3 and 5 yards.


For Akron, Quin Jeffrey had 149 total yards including 76-yard kick return for a touchdown and a 50-yard touchdown catch from LaDarius Hayes. 


Hayes also had a 41-yard touchdown pass to Johnny Tubbs. 


Keith (7-0, 5-0) travels to Autaugaville next Friday, while Akron (4-3, 2-3) plays at Billingsley.
