VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Northridge sweeps past Holy Spirit


TUSCALOOSA | Led by Shirlyncia Moore, the Northridge High School volleyball team swept Holy Spirit Tuesday in a three-game match.

Northridge won by scores of 25-11, 25-11 and 25-16.

Moore had nine kills and four blocks to help the Lady Jaguars improve to 22-14. Amanda Guarisco had eight kills, three aces and one block. Alexie Blunt had five kills and one ace. Kiana Johnson had one block, one kill, one ace and 33 assists.

Caroline Sisson had four kills, eight digs and one block for Holy Spirit (9-18). Andie Gamble had two kills, one ace and one block. Olivia Kapera had 10 digs. Madeline Whitaker had nine assists and one ace. Caitlin Shortall had nine digs and three kills.

Holy Spirit plays at Central at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Northridge will host the Class 6A, Area 9 tournament Oct. 18 and will open against Bessemer City at 4 p.m.

 

Lady Knights down North River Christian

TUSCALOOSA | The Tuscaloosa Academy volleyball team pulled off a sweep in defeating North River Christian Academy.

The Lady Knights (12-5) won by scores of 25-18, 25-10 and 25-15.

Celia Gatewood and Chassiti Kimbrell were honored as Tuscaloosa Academy observed Senior night. Gatewood had 11 assists, nine digs and four kills. Kimbrell recorded two aces, two kills and three digs. Shelby Curry had nine kills, eight aces, and six digs. Brittany Ledbetter had 16 assists, 10 digs, six kills and two aces. Kaci Cochran had 11 digs, seven kills and four aces.

North River Christian Academy’s Lori Ann Sims had seven digs, five kills and three aces.

Tuscaloosa Academy will host an AISA first-round regional match on Monday.

 

Lady Tigers beat ACA

TUSCALOOSA | The Fayette County Lady Tigers posted wins of 25-7, 25-4 and 25-23 to defeat American Christian Academy.

Fayette County improved to 13-10 overall, 4-2 in Class 3A, Area 7.

Carlee Burgett had seven digs, five kills, five aces and one block for Fayette County. Autumn Bonner had five digs, five kills, one block and one ace. Caitlin Aldridge had eight aces, four digs and two kills. Jacey McGuire had eight assists, three digs, three aces and one kill.

Meghan Sanders three kills and two blocks for the Lady Patriots (3-15). Presley Pate had three assists. Meredith Parr had three aces.

Fayette County and American Christian will participate in the area tournament, starting Oct. 18 at Northside.

 

South Lamar sweeps Lamar County

VERNON | The South Lamar Lady Stallions went on the road and earned their 20th victory over season by sweeping Lamar County.

South Lamar won by scores of 25-11, 25-20 and 25-14.

Lauren Crimm had 20 assists and five aces for South Lamar (20-6). Karoline Holsonback had 14 kills and six blocks. Abbi Dollar finished with four aces, four kills and two blocks. Morgan Hardin had six digs and three aces. Sara Long and Brooklyn Fulgham each had three aces and one kill.

South Lamar plays at Sulligent Tuesday.

 

Harris leads Akron to victory

AKRON | Akron coach David West said LovPrincess Harris had one of her best games of the season in leading the Lady Rams to a victory over Hale County.

Akron (13-4) won by scores of 25-12, 25-18, 21-25 and 25-13. Harris had 26 kills and 13 aces. Dequandra Lyles and Zabrina Small had nine kills each. Jasmin White recorded 35 assists, and Rekeila Anderson finished with 16 digs.

Akron plays at Linden at 1 this afternoon in a Class 1A, Area 4 match.
