AREA ROUNDUP: Stevens leads Hale County to victory

MOUNDVILLE | Grant Stevens passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another as the Hale County Wildcats defeated R.C. Hatch 45-24 Friday night in a Class 2A, Region 4 game.
Stevens threw a 23-yard touchdown to Aaron Sheffield and a 22-yard scoring pass to Jay Payne. Stevens also scored on a 16-yard run.
Charles Yawn added touchdown runs of 4 and 13 yards in the first quarter.
C.J. Byrd scored on a 29-yard run for the Wildcats in the second quarter. Blake Williams had a late fourth-quarter touchdown on a 15-yard run.
Hale County (3-3, 2-2) travels to Oakman next Friday night.
Demopolis 21, Greenville 3
GREENVILLE | Brock Montgomery caught four passes for 74 yards and one touchdown to lead the seventh-ranked Demopolis Tigers to 21-3 victory over Greenville on Friday night in a Class 5A, Region 3 matchup.
The Tigers scored 14 points in the second quarter on a 3-yard run by Roderick Davis and a 10-yard pass from Tucker Jones to Montgomery.
In the third quarter, Jones scored on a 2-yard run.
Ozell Carter kicked a 32-yard field goal in the first quarter for Greenville.
Tyler Merriweather led the Tiger defense with five tackles, five assists, one sack and one fumble recovery.
Demopolis (6-0, 4-0) hosts Sumter Central next Friday.
Lamar County 44, Aliceville 14
VERNON | Dallas Cockerham passed for one touchdown and rushed for two more to lead Lamar County past Aliceville.
Cockerham rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries. He also completed 4 of 8 passes, which included a 36-yard touchdown to Tim Harton in the second quarter.
Lamar County also had touchdowns from Alex Wheeler on a 7-yard run, a 6-yard run by Kendall Smith and a 47-yard run by Landon Williams.
Lamar County (4-2) hosts Cold Springs next Friday.
Dora 27, Bibb County 25
CENTREVILLE | Dora scored two early touchdowns and held off a surge from Bibb County to a take a Class 4A, Region 4 win.
Dora’s Kai Thomas ran for 113 yards on 15 carries with scores of 1 and 39 yards. Devonta Gosha hauled in a 80-yard score from Caleb May, who threw for 262 yards, for Dora’s first points.
Dikembe Aaron had touchdowns runs of 7 and 11 yards for Bibb County. Adam Gaddis returned a 57-yard punt for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, but Bibb County was unable to convert the 2-point conversion to tie the game.
Dora (5-1, 4-0) hosts Oak Grove next Friday. Bibb County (2-3, 2-2) plays at Calera.
Pickens Academy 28, Marengo Academy 16
CARROLLTON | Pickens Academy quarterback Josh Lewis rushed for 183 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.
Lewis scored on runs of 1 and 84 yards. He also threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Sam Beachler.
Joel Pratt added 91 yards and one touchdown on nine carries. He scored on a 40-yard run in the second quarter.
Pickens Academy (7-0) travels to Meadowview Christian next Friday.
Pickens County 28, Parrish 0
REFORM | Jermarcus Brown rushed for 315 yards and scored all four touchdowns for the unbeaten Pickens County Tornadoes as they shut out Parrish in a Class 1A, Region 4 game.
Brown scored on runs of 88, 37, 81 and 14 yards.
Pickens County’s Chris Hill led the defense with 12 tackles and three sacks. Terrien Steele had 10 tackles and four sacks.
Pickens County (6-0, 4-0) travels to Hubbertville next Friday.
Oakman 21, Sulligent 13
OAKMAN | Jase Trotter led Oakman with 147 passing yards and one touchdown. Wesley Austin scored on a 43-yard run as the team took a Class 2A, Region 8 game.
Rocky Sides and Deion Jenkins each had touchdown catches for Sulligent. Sides caught a 17-yard score from Ladaberick Coleman. Jenkins caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Coleman.
Sulligent (1-5, 1-3) hosts Francis Marion next Friday.
Sunshine 29, Akron 27
AKRON | The Sunshine Tigers had two fourth-quarter defensive stops to hold off the Akron Rams and earn their first victory in a Class 1A, Region 3 game.
Akron pulled to within 29-27 with 8:05 remaining in the game on a 3-yard run by Derion Jack, but the Rams threw an incomplete pass on the 2-point conversion attempt.
The Rams had one final chance but they were stopped at the Sunshine 2-yard line as time expired.
Keonta Edwards caught three touchdown passes to lead Sunshine.
Johnny Tubbs threw three touchdown passes for Akron. He threw two to Quinn Jeffrey and one to Demarcus Morris.
Jack rushed for 112 yards and Jaylon Ruffin led the Rams with six tackles.
Sunshine (1-5, 1-3) hosts Holy Spirit next Friday, while Akron (4-2, 2-2) hosts Keith.
Hanceville 12, Winfield 0
WINFIELD | Two touchdowns from Hanceville’s Brontae Harris led the Bulldogs to a Class 3A, Region 7 win over Winfield.
Harris returned an interception 85 yards for a touchdown in the opening quarter. He capped the scoring with a 50-yard touchdown run in the fourth.
Harris ran for 131 yards on 14 rushes.
Hanceville (3-3, 2-2) travels to Winston County next Friday. Winfield (2-4, 1-3) plays at Hamilton.
Fayette County 37, Greene County 14
FAYETTE | Fayette County scored 30 points in the first quarter in a Class 3A, Region 3 matchup.
Fayette County scored four touchdowns and a safety in the first quarter. Kyle Nalls scored on runs of 5 and 39 yards and Daniel Dixon scored on a 2-yard run. After the safety, Tevin Madison returned the free kick 57 yards for a score.
Nalls led Fayette County with four carries for 73 yards, while Hunter Voegele and Deavon Oden each intercepted a pass.
Jeremy Mobley led Greene County with seven carries for 70 yards and two touchdowns.
Fayette County (5-1, 4-0) hosts Holt for homecoming next Friday, while Greene County (0-6, 0-4) hosts Sipsey Valley.
Berry 46, Brilliant 20
BRILLIANT | Terrance “Tank” Hollingsworth led the Berry Wildcats with a 300-yard rushing, five-touchdown performance in a Class 1A, Region 5 win against Brilliant.
Hollingsworth scored on runs of 34, 70, 14, 46 and 13 yards.
Defensively, J.C. Finch had interception returns for touchdowns of 44 and 40 yards.
Zac Pasley led Berry with 12 tackles. Clancy Brown had 11 tackles and 94 total yards on offense.
Berry (4-2, 3-1) hosts Lynn next Friday.
Sumter Academy 56, Eastwood Christian 8
YORK | Christopher Yonker rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns to lead Sumter Academy in a AISA Class A, Region 2 game.
Yonker scored on runs of 3 and 48 yards.
Austin Dirksen scored three different ways, catching an 18-yard pass from Blake Dial, rushing in from 4 yards out and returning a punt 60 yards. He finished with four carries for 50 yards and two catches for 24 yards.
Sumter Academy (3-4, 3-1) travels to Jackson Academy next Friday.
Hubbertville 41, South Lamar 7
MILLPORT | Aaron Dillard and Corey Stewart each scored two touchdowns to lead Hubbertville over South Lamar in a Class 1A, Region 5 game.
Dillard had seven carries for 105 yards with an 8-yard touchdown and also caught a 45-yard touchdown pass. Stewart scored from 8 and 42 yards and finished with 55 yards rushing on five attempts.
South Lamar was led by Canaan Fleming’s 10 carries for 75 yards. He also had four tackles and one interception. South Lamar’s lone score came on a 5-yard run by Herschel Smith.
Defensively, Jason Lawson led South Lamar with 13 tackles.
Hubbertville (4-2, 2-2) hosts Pickens County next Friday, while South Lamar (0-6, 0-4) hosts Marion County.
Citronelle 30, Sumter Central 25
YORK | Citronelle’s Jeffery Young ended Sumter Central’s comeback bid with a late interception in a Class 5A, Region 3 matchup.
Julius Maye led Sumter Central with 24 carries for 118 yards and a touchdown. Terance Henson had six carries for 54 yards and added six tackles on defense.
Sumter Central (1-5, 0-4) travels to play Demopolis next Friday.
Patrician Academy 56, Southern Academy 27
GREENSBORO | Southern Academy had two 100-yard rushers and finished with 251 yards, but it was not enough to defeat AISA Class AA, Region 2 opponent Patrician Academy.
Jacob Rose had 20 carries for 109 yards with a touchdown and Clayton Hall rushed 10 times for 102 yards and two scores for the Cougars.
Rose also led Southern Academy defensively with eight tackles.
Southern Academy (2-5, 1-2) travels to South Choctaw Academy next Friday.
Linden 34, A.L. Johnson 0
LINDEN | Anthony Robinson ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries to lead second-ranked Linden in a Class 1A, Region 1 victory.
Robinson scored on runs of 14 and 81 yards.
Jalen Lewis began the game with a 3-yard touchdown run. Jamal Lewis capped the scoring with a 13-yard rushing touchdown.
Santerrious Jones recovered a fumble in the end zone for another Patriot score.
Linden held A.L. Johnson to 23 total yards, including minus 1-yard rushing.
Linden (6-0, 4-0) hosts Marengo next Friday.
Cold Springs 22, Francis Marion 6
BREMEN | Dementrius Williams scored Francis Marion’s lone touchdown as it fell to Cold Springs in a Class 2A, Region 4 showdown.
“It was a hard-fought game,” Francis Marion coach Javaris Jackson said. “Too many mistakes, too many penalties.”
Francis Marion trailed 14-6 at the half but could not overcome its three interceptions.
Francis Marion (0-6, 0-4) travels to Sulligent next Friday.
