Sipsey Valley’s Lewis is ASWA Player of Week

Sipsey Valley’s Garret Lewis rolled right and connected with Braylan Smith for a 96-yard touchdown pass early in the first quarter of Friday’s game against Curry.

Lewis was just getting started.

Lewis completed 10 of 16 passes for 340 yards and three touchdowns, added 11 carries for 203 yards rushing and scored the game-winning, 2-yard touchdown run with 2:40 to play to push the Bears to a 54-47 victory over Curry. Sipsey Valley trailed 47-39 in the fourth quarter before Lewis rallied the Bears to victory.

Lewis’ performance — accounting for more than 500 yards of total offense — made him this week’s Alabama Sports Writers Association Offensive Player of the Week. Lewis beat out two other finalists for the award, Falkville running back Marcus Woodall and Phillips-Bear Creek quarterback Rodney Camp.
