TUSCALOOSA | Hillcrest High School’s Callie Brister missed her graduation ceremony, but the memories she made in her senior softball season should last a lifetime.
A first-team All-State selection as a shortstop, Brister slugged 27 home runs and was named the Class 6A Hitter of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.
Brister, her teammates and head coach Ted Swinney made their first appearance in the AHSAA Tournament in Montgomery and the program’s first since 2005. Hillcrest played twice on May 18, the same day as graduation for Brister and the other members of the Class of 2012.
